Recent studies indicate that cilia impairment, accompanied by the axonema loss and the basal body misorientation, is a common pathological feature of SARS-CoV-2-infected bronchial epithelial cells. However, these data were obtained using either cultured cells, or animal models, while in human postmortem material, cilia impairment has not been described yet. Here, we present direct observation of cilia impairment in SARS-CoV-2-infected bronchial epithelial cells using transmission electron microscopy of the autopsy material.

The emission of nanoscale particles from the surfaces of dental implants leads to the cumulative effect of particle complexes in the bone bed and surrounding soft tissues. Aspects of particle migration with the possibility of their involvement in the development of pathological processes of systemic nature remain unexplored. The aim of this work was to study protein production during the interaction of immunocompetent cells with nanoscale metal particles obtained from the surfaces of dental implants in the supernatants.

Article Synopsis
  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are crucial for regulating gene expression, and their dysregulation is frequently linked to cancer, particularly melanoma, the deadliest skin cancer.
  • This study focused on identifying significant miRNA biomarkers for advanced melanoma and evaluating their potential in diagnostics through blood plasma analysis, finding notable differences between melanoma patients and healthy controls.
  • Additionally, the research explored the efficacy of humic substances and chitosan to lower specific miRNA markers associated with melanoma, indicating their potential as therapeutic agents.

During the last few years, in the territory of the Russian Federation, the number of cases of toxic phosphoric osteonecrosis of the jaws has increased against the background of taking drugs of "artisanal" production (pervitin, desomorphin). The aim of our study was to increase the effectiveness of surgical treatment of patients with a diagnosis of toxic phosphorus necrosis of the maxilla. We performed a comprehensive treatment of patients with a history of drug addiction and the above diagnosis.

Article Synopsis
  • Calvarial doughnut lesions (CDL) with bone fragility is a rare genetic disorder marked by low bone mineral density and specific lesions in cranial bones, often leading to fractures.
  • This condition is caused by mutations in the gene that produces sphingomyelin synthase 2, which is vital for bone mineralization.
  • Recent studies have identified a common mutation (c.148C>T) associated with CDL in multiple cases, revealing significant variability in symptoms among affected individuals, underscoring the importance of genetic testing for accurate diagnosis.

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory bowel disease of unknown etiology. Genetic predisposition and dysbiotic gut microbiota are important factors in the pathogenesis of CD. In this study, we analyzed the taxonomic composition of the gut microbiota and genotypes of 24 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) associated with the risk of CD.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to report the midterm outcomes of glueless simple limbal epithelial transplantation (G-SLET) as a novel modification of limbal stem cell transplantation in patients with unilateral limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD).

Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective, interventional case series. Analysis of the 6 months interim outcomes was performed for 11 patients with unilateral LSCD who underwent G-SLET without simultaneous keratoplasty.

Background: Malignant neoplasms of the kidneys are among the 10 most common oncological diseases in Russia, in which various kidney lesions can occur, including glomerulopathy. Glomerular pathology can be an independent nosology, a manifestation of paraneoplastic syndrome or metabolic disturbances.

Objective: Evaluation of the incidence and structure of glomerulopathies in patients with kidney neoplasms.

This research addresses the development of a formalized approach to dental material selection (DMS) in manufacturing removable complete dentures (RDC). Three types of commercially available polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) grades, processed by an identical Digital Light Processing (DLP) 3D printer, were compared. In this way, a combination of mechanical, tribological, technological, microbiological, and economic factors was assessed.

Life expectancy and age-related diseases burden increased significantly over the past few decades. Age-related conditions are commonly discussed in a very limited paradigm of depleted cellular proliferation and maturation with exponential accumulation of senescent cells. However, most recent evidence showed that the majority of age-associated ailments, i.

The study reveals the polymer-crosslinker interactions and functionality of hydrophilic nanofibers for antibacterial wound coatings. Coaxial electrospinning leverages a drug encapsulation protocol for a core-shell fiber composite with a core derived from polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene glycol with amorphous silica (PVA-PEG-SiO), and a shell originating from polyvinyl alcohol and graphene oxide (PVA-GO). Crosslinking with GO and SiO initiates the hydrogel transition for the fiber composite upon contact with moisture, which aims to optimize the drug release.

This paper discusses the architecture and implementation of a modular component of the smart operating theater digital twin, designed to control robotic equipment-the robot interface module. This interface is designed to ensure equipment operation both in a real smart operating theater and in the virtual space of its digital twin-the computer simulation. Using such an interface in the digital twin will make it possible to use it in computer-assisted training of surgeons, preliminary planning, post-analysis, and simulation, preceding the operation of real equipment.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) continues to be a main cause of high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality and its prevalence is expected to increase as the population ages, so its prevention is a key public health policy goal. The risk of developing atherosclerosis is related to a complex interaction of genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. Significant progress has been made in understanding the genetic architecture of this disease in the last decade.

The regulatory functions of the B-cell compartment play an important role in the development and suppression of the immune response. Disruption of their anti-inflammatory functions may lead to the acceleration of immunopathological processes, and to autoimmune diseases, in particular. Unfortunately, the exact mechanism underlying the functioning and development of regulatory B cells (Breg) has not yet been fully elucidated.

This article systematizes available data from the literature on biliary gastritis (BG) in order to increase the awareness of specialists about the latest possibilities for diagnosing the disease. BG occurs as a result of pathological duodenogastric reflux. In patients with a preserved duodenogastric junction, the dominant factor is represented by motor disorders of the upper digestive tract (primary biliary gastritis), while in patients recovering from surgical interventions it is represented by structural changes (secondary biliary gastritis).
