New technologies in additive manufacturing and patient-specific CT-based custom implant designs make it possible for previously unimaginable salvage and limb-sparing operations a practical reality. This study presents the design and fabrication of a lattice-structured implant for talus replacement surgery. Our primary case involved a young adult patient who had sustained severe damage to the talus, resulting in avascular necrosis and subsequent bone collapse.

Liquid crystal colloids manifest complex motion caused by external stimuli, but tunable and addressable control of microsized objects remains a challenge. This study aims to demonstrate light-driven trapping, transport, and sustained periodic motions of microparticles by employing liquid crystal films as a light-controllable colloidal platform. The diverse motions of microscopic particles result from Marangoni convection coupled with elastic deformations in free-surface liquid crystal films subjected to light beam heating.

A novel pathway for the magnesiothermic reduction of boron oxide and magnesium dodecaboride (MgB) in the presence of carbon by a self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method was proposed that was aimed at the direct preparation of boron carbide nanopowder. The combined utilization of two boron sources, boron oxide and MgB, allowed tailoring the overall caloric effect of the process, increasing the yield of the target product and lessening the laborious leaching process. In addition, it is an alternative way to utilize magnesium borides, which are inevitable side products at boron production.

This work reports on the spark plasma sintering (SPS) of self-propagating high-temperature-synthesis (SHS)-derived Ni-W and Ni-W-2wt%hBN (4:1 molar ratio of metals) powders. The synthesis was carried out from a mixture of NiO and WO using Mg + C combined reducers through a thermo-kinetic coupling approach. Experiments performed in the thermodynamically optimal area demonstrated the high sensitivity of combustion parameters and product phase composition to the amount of reducers and hBN powder.

Chemical mechanisms of antioxidant and electron donating function of the hypothalamic proline-rich polypeptides have been clarified on the molecular level. The antioxidant-chelating property of Galarmin and Gx-NH(2) was established by their capability to inhibit copper(II) dichloride catalyzed H(2)O(2) decomposition, thus preventing formation of HO(*) and HOO(*) radicals. The antiradical activity of Galarmin and Gx-NH(2) was determined by their ability to react with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical applying differential pulse voltammetry and UV-Vis spectrophotometry methods.
