Impact of a comprehensive pharmacist medication-therapy management service.

Objective: This proof of concept study aimed to determine whether a pharmacist-managed medication therapy management (MTM) program in a private endocrinologist physician's practice reduced healthcare services utilization and related costs 6 months after patients' discharge from an institution with a transition of care service.

Methods: Patients were included in the study if they were English-speaking, ages >18 years, had type 1 or 2 diabetes, and had a recent transition of care experience (inpatient hospital stay or emergency department/urgent care/paramedic or other acute care visit). The study had a non-randomized design where intervention patients, enrolled July 1, 2012-September 30, 2013, were administered MTM at four visits over 6 months and were compared to historical control patients with available electronic medical records from August 8, 2008 to March 15, 2012.

Budgetary impact of the utilization of buprenorphine/naloxone sublingual film and tablet for Medicaid in the United States.

Objectives: The buprenorphine/naloxone combination for the treatment of opioid dependence is available in a film or tablet formulation. Recent retrospective studies demonstrated that treatment with the sublingual film formulation is associated with improved treatment retention and lower healthcare costs. In March 2013, generic buprenorphine/naloxone tablets were approved in the US.

Effect of top soil wettability on water evaporation and plant growth.

In general, agricultural soil surfaces being hydrophilic in nature get easily wetted by water. The water beneath the soil moves through capillary effect and comes to the surface of the soil and thereafter evaporates into the surrounding air due to atmospheric conditions such as sunlight, wind current, temperature and relative humidity. To lower the water loss from soil, an experiment was designed in which a layer of hydrophobic soil was laid on the surface of ordinary hydrophilic soil.

Objective: The Attitudes of Consumers Toward Health, Cough, and Cold (ACHOO) survey was developed to better inform health care providers on the natural history and impact of common cold and cough, and related consumer experience and behaviors.

Research Design And Methods: Randomly selected US Internet/mobile device users were invited to participate in an online survey (N = 3333) in October 2012. Response quotas modeled upon 2010 US Census data ensured a demographically representative sample.

Leishmaniases survey in the Awash Valley: leishmanin skin test profile in the Upper Awash and surrounding areas.

The occurrence of leishmanial infection in the Upper Awash and the surrounding areas was assessed in a survey conducted between December 1994 to March 1995, employing a cross-sectional leishmanin skin test. Out of the 803 study subjects skin tested, 775 (97%) returned for the reading of the reaction. The rate of leishmanin positivity in 10 representative study sites ranged from 16% to 65% with the over all prevalence of 33% in the study area.
