Selenium (SeNPs) and tellurium nanoparticles (TeNPs) were synthesized by green technology using the three new bacterial marine isolates (strains PL 2476, AF 2469 and G 2451). Isolates were classified as Pseudoalteromonas shioyasakiensis according to 16S rRNA sequence analysis, morphological characteristics, and biochemical reactions. The bioreduction processes of isolates were studied in comparison with the previously described Alteromonas macleodii (strain 2328).

Based on the 16S rRNA gene and whole genome sequences analyses the novel strain КMM 9862 fell into the genus Microbulbifer (class Gammaproteobacteria) sharing the highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 97.4% to Microbulbifer echini AM134 and Microbulbifer epialgicus F-104, 97.

Cell and tissue nanomechanics has been intriguingly introduced into biomedical research, not only complementing traditional immunophenotyping and molecular analysis, but also bringing unexpected new insights for clinical diagnostics and bioengineering. However, despite the progress in the study of individual cells in culture by atomic force microscopy (AFM), its application for mapping live tissues has a number of technical limitations. Here, we elaborate a new technique to study live slices of normal brain tissue and tumors by combining morphological and nanomechanical AFM mapping in high throughput scanning mode, in contrast to the typically utilized force spectroscopy mode based on single-point probe application.

A novel Gram-staining negative, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, and non-motile bacterium, designated strain 9Alg 56, was isolated from the red alga Tichocarpus crinitus. The phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences placed the novel strain within the family Rhodobacteraceae, the order Rhodobacterales, the class Alphaproteobacteria, the phylum Pseudomonadota. The nearest neighbors of the new strain were Pontivivens insulae KCTC 42458, Oceanibium sediminis KCTC 62076, Halovulum dunhuangense YYQ-30 and Monaibacterium marinum C7 with 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 94.

Sympatric two-species infestation by rhizocephalan parasites in the spider crab aff. Macroporous scaffolds (cryogels) for the 3D cell culturing of colorectal cancer micro-tumors have been fabricated by cross-linking chitosan and carboxymethyl chitosan (CMC) with 1,4-butandiol diglycidyl ether (BDDGE) under subzero temperature. Due to the different intrinsic properties and reactivity of CMC and chitosan under the same cross-linking conditions, Young's moduli and swelling of the permeable for HCT 116 cells cryogels varied in the broad range 3-41 kPa and 3500-6000%, respectively. We have demonstrated that the morphology of micro-tumors can be controlled via selection of the polymer for the scaffold fabrication.

The interspecific recombination of the mitochondrial (mt) genome, if not an experimental artifact, may result from interbreeding of species with broken reproductive barriers, which, in turn, is a frequent consequence of human activities including species translocations, habitat modifications, and climate change. This issue, however, has not been addressed for Protosalanx chinensis and other commercially important and, simultaneously, invasive salangid fishes that were the product of successful aquaculture in China. To assess the probability of interspecific hybridization, we analyzed the patterns of diversity and recombination in the complete mitochondrial (mt) genomes of these fishes using the GenBank resources.

During the postembryonic development of the cerebellum in chum salmon, , the lateral part of the juvenile cerebellum gives rise to the caudomedial part of the definitive cerebellum, which is consistent with the data reported for zebrafish and mouse cerebellum. Thus, the topographic organization of the cerebellum and its efferents are similar between fish (chum salmon and zebrafish) and mammals, including mice and humans.

Identifying the neurotransmitters secreted by specific neurons in crustacean eyestalks is crucial to understanding their physiological roles. Here, we combined immunocytochemistry with confocal microscopy and identified the neurotransmitters dopamine (DA), serotonin (5-HT), and acetylcholine (ACh) in the optic neuropils and X-organ sinus gland (XO-SG) complex of the eyestalks of (red king crab). The distribution of Ach neurons was studied by choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) immunohistochemistry and compared with that of DA neurons examined in the same or adjacent sections by tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) immunohistochemistry.
