Introduction: Diagnosing moderate haemophilia A (MHA) solely based on deficient FVIII protein levels limits its optimal management and delays the initiation of prophylaxis. Updating protocols and incorporating new variables into its diagnosis could prevent underestimating disease severity, avoiding early arthropathies and impairing patients' quality of life.

Aim: To propose recommendations to improve the comprehensive management of people with MHA.

Article Synopsis
  • Semaglutide is an effective treatment for glycemic control and weight loss in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients, including those with chronic kidney disease (CKD), showing no significant safety concerns over a 12-month period.
  • In a study comparing T2D patients with and without CKD, both groups experienced reduced HbA1c levels and weight loss, although non-CKD patients lost slightly more weight.
  • CKD severity had minimal impact on treatment efficacy and safety, suggesting that semaglutide can be safely used in T2D patients with varying levels of kidney function.

Background: Niemann-Pick disease Type C (NPC) is a genetic, incurable, neurodegenerative disorder. This orphan disease is most frequently caused by mutations in the NPC1 protein, resulting in intralysossomal cholesterol accumulation. NPC1 is found in neuronal cell bodies, axon terminals and synaptosomes, suggesting it plays a role in lysosomal degradation pathway and in synaptic transmission.
