To date, recommendations for the implementation of awake prone positioning in patients with hypoxia secondary to SARSCoV2 infection have been extrapolated from prior studies on respiratory distress. Thus, we carried out a systematic review and metaanalysis to evaluate the benefits of pronation on the oxygenation, need for endotracheal intubation (ETI), and mortality of this group of patients. We carried out a systematic search in the PubMed and Embase databases between June 2020 and November 2021.

Physical examination (PE) of donors is essential to identify potential risks to the safety and efficacy of donated organs and tissues and is mandatory in the EU. However, no detailed guidance is available as to how PE should be performed. Health authorities (HA) and health professionals (HP) in member states of the European Committee on Organ Transplantation of the Council of Europe (CD-P-TO) and observer countries completed surveys relating to the regulatory requirements for PE and the professional practice of PE in their countries for organ and tissue donors.

Emergence of cefiderocol resistance among carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales, particularly those in the Enterobacter cloacae complex (ECC), is becoming of alarming concern; however, the mechanistic basis of this phenomenon remains poorly understood. We describe the acquisition of VIM-1-mediated reduced cefiderocol susceptibility (MICs 0.5 to 4 mg/L) in a collection of 54 carbapenemase-producing isolates belonging to the ECC.

Purpose: ATLAS ASMA described the psychosocial impact of asthma on patients' daily life from patients' perspectives (in terms of impaired personal and intimate relationships, sleep quality, leisure time, daily activities, and others) in Spain. Secondary objective includes description of time since diagnosis, expectations, and satisfaction of patients about disease, treatment and medical assistance received, adherence to treatment, perceived control of asthma, and health-related quality of life.
Patients And Methods: This was a cross-sectional, observational study, based on a self-administered online survey for adult patients (≥18 years) with asthma.

Unlabelled: Organ, tissue, and cell donation and transplantation legislation and policies vary substantially worldwide, as do performance outcomes in various jurisdictions. Our objective was to create expert, consensus guidance that links evidence and ethical concepts to legislative and policy reform for tissue and cell donation and transplantation systems.
Methods: We identified topic areas and recommendations through consensus, using nominal group technique.

Haematopoietic progenitor cell donation from bone marrow and mobilised peripheral blood obtained from related and unrelated donors is an established procedure. The donation process in general has proven to be safe, but in rare cases severe and even fatal events have been reported. The present study aimed at providing a description of the current situation of donor protection measures in Council of Europe member States.

Background: In-stent thrombosis after mechanical thrombectomy (MT) worsen outcomes in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to tandem lesions (TL). Although an optimal antiplatelet therapy is needed, the best approach to avoid in-stent thrombosis is yet to be elucidated.
Hypothesis: Low-dose intravenous tirofiban is superior to intravenous aspirin in avoiding in-stent thrombosis in patients undergoing MT plus carotid stenting in the setting of AIS due to TL.

Background: COVID-19 shows different clinical and pathophysiological stages over time. The effect of days elapsed from the onset of symptoms (DEOS) to hospitalization on COVID-19 prognostic factors remains uncertain. We analyzed the impact on mortality of DEOS to hospitalization and how other independent prognostic factors perform when taking this time elapsed into account.

Introduction: The definition of asthma phenotypes has not been fully established, neither there are cluster studies showing homogeneous results to solidly establish clear phenotypes. The purpose of this study was to develop a classification algorithm based on unsupervised cluster analysis, identifying clusters that represent clinically relevant asthma phenotypes that may share asthma-related outcomes.
Methods: We performed a multicentre prospective cohort study, including adult patients with asthma (N=512) from the MEGA study (Mechanisms underlying the Genesis and evolution of Asthma).

Background: Patients with alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AATD), commonly categorized as a rare disease, have been affected by the changes in healthcare management brought about by COVID-19. This study's aim was to identify the changes that have taken place in AATD patient care as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain and to propose experts' recommendations aimed at ensuring humanized and quality care for people with AATD in the post-pandemic situation.
Methods: A qualitative descriptive case study with a holistic single-case design was conducted, using focus groups with experts in AATD clinical management, including 15 health professionals with ties to the Spanish health system (12 pneumologists and 2 hospital pharmacists from 11 different hospitals in Spain) and 1 patient representative.

Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 is a highly contagious virus, and despite professionals' best efforts, nosocomial COVID-19 (NC) infections have been reported. This work aimed to describe differences in symptoms and outcomes between patients with NC and community-acquired COVID-19 (CAC) and to identify risk factors for severe outcomes among NC patients.
Methods: This is a nationwide, retrospective, multicenter, observational study that analyzed patients hospitalized with confirmed COVID-19 in 150 Spanish hospitals (SEMI-COVID-19 Registry) from March 1, 2020, to April 30, 2021.

Background: Niemann-Pick disease Type C (NPC) is a genetic, incurable, neurodegenerative disorder. This orphan disease is most frequently caused by mutations in the NPC1 protein, resulting in intralysossomal cholesterol accumulation. NPC1 is found in neuronal cell bodies, axon terminals and synaptosomes, suggesting it plays a role in lysosomal degradation pathway and in synaptic transmission.
