Background: Heat strain and dehydration can affect an individual's physical and mental performance. The purpose of this review was to examine the literature for the impact of heat strain on health care workers (HCWs) who care for patients with high-consequence infectious diseases (HCIDs) while wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), discuss the risks of impaired safety caused by heat strain and dehydration in HCID environments, identify attempts to combat PPE-related heat strain, recognize limitations, and provide suggestions for further research.
Methods: A literature search was performed in PubMed or MEDLINE and Google Scholar.

Aims: Hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) survival relies on surgical reconstruction of the right ventricle (RV) to provide systemic circulation. This substantially increases the RV load, wall stress, maladaptive remodelling, and dysfunction, which in turn increases the risk of death or transplantation.
Methods And Results: We conducted a phase 1 open-label multicentre trial to assess the safety and feasibility of Lomecel-B as an adjunct to second-stage HLHS surgical palliation.

Department of Radiology, University of Nebraska Medical Center, 981045 Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE 68198-1045, United States.
Background: Articular cartilage structure and chondrocyte health are sensitive and reliant on dynamic joint loading during activities. The purpose of this pilot study was to determine the association between measures of individual and cumulative knee joint loading with T2 relaxation times in the knee cartilage of young individuals without knee injury.
Methods: Twelve participants (17-30 years old) without history of knee injury or surgery completed MRI, physical activity (PA), and biomechanical gait testing.

Department of Internal Medicine, University of Nebraska Medical Center, 983332 Nebraska Medical Center Omaha, NE 68198-3332 United States. Electronic address:
Background: Alcohol withdrawal and its consequences are a common concern for the large numbers of patients who present to emergency departments (EDs) with alcohol use disorders. While the majority of patients who go on to develop alcohol withdrawal experience only mild symptoms, a small proportion will experience seizures or delirium tremens. The aim of this study was to develop a tool to predict the need for hospital admission in patients at risk for alcohol withdrawal using only objective criteria that are typically available during the course of an ED visit.

Background: Despite a paucity of evidence to support a multitude of educational innovations, curricular leaders are pressured to find innovative solutions to better prepare medical students for an evolving twenty-first century health care system. As part of this effort, this study directly compared student-rated effectiveness scores of six different learning modalities.
Methods: Study participants included 286 medical students enrolled in the second-year rheumatology core at a single academic medical center between 2013 and 2017.
