To assess the influence of various physical factors on the outcome of transarterial chemoembolization combined with γ-ray hypofractionated radiation therapy (TACE-γHRT) for unresectable huge (≥10 cm) hepatocellular carcinoma (UH-HCC) patients. A total of 162 UH-HCC patients with different tumor locations treated with TACE-γHRT and a retrospective analysis was conducted to evaluate the impacts of selected physical parameters on clinical outcomes. The selected physical factors influenced the clinical outcomes significantly.

Int J Tuberc Lung Dis

January 2024

Department of Tuberculosis, Beijing Chest Hospital, Capital Medical University, Beijing.

Bicyclol was used for treating idiosyncratic acute drug-induced liver injury (DILI) in a phase II trial. This study was aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of bicyclol 25 and 50 mg thrice a day (TID) for treating acute DILI caused by anti-TB drugs in the light of the trial results. We analysed clinical data of patients with TB drug-induced DILI in the trial database.

Objective: Cranioplasty (CP) and ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) are procedures required after decompression of the flap (DC) to protect the cranial frame and prevent hydrocephalus. This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of different surgical sequences of CP and VPS after DC and identified risk factors for necessary permanent VPS.

Methods: From January 2017 to December 2021, valid follow-up data were collected in 192 cases.

Background: Colonoscopy is the main kind of way to detect and treat diseases about large intestine, but during the examination and preparation, these 2 processes are able to lead abdominal pain, abdominal distention and other discomfort feel, which will cause patients to refuse the examination and become anxious. Painless and sedative endoscopy may reduce discomfort of patients, but there is a risk of adverse effects. Many studies have shown that playing music during colonoscopy can reduce discomfort and increase acceptance of colonoscopy, but the conclusion remains controversial.

Rationale: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an autosomal dominant genetic disease, with a very high cancer rate. At present, endoscopic resection of polyps ≥ 1 cm is often chosen for patients with non-cancerous polyps who are unwilling to undergo surgery, and regular review is conducted. Once the polyps are pathologically confirmed to be cancerous, surgical resection of the diseased large intestine is generally recommended, but surgery often leads to a series of complications.

Background And Purpose: Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is frequently used for the removal of colorectal neoplasms. However, the use of prophylactic antibiotics in patients undergoing EMR is debatable. The aim of this randomized controlled trial was to assess whether antimicrobial prophylaxis is crucial in the perioperative period of EMR, especially for 10- to 20-mm lesions in this setting.

Growth hormone treatment in pre-pubertal short Chinese children with chronic kidney disease prior to transplantation.

Pediatr Res

July 2023

Department of Nephrology, Children's Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai Kidney Development and Pediatric Kidney Disease Research Center, National Children's Medical Center, Shanghai, China.

Article Synopsis
  • A 52-week study examined the effects of daily recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) on growth in prepubertal Chinese children with chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  • Results showed that those treated with rhGH experienced significant increases in height standard deviation scores and other growth metrics compared to a control group, along with minimal adverse effects.
  • The findings suggest that rhGH is effective and safe for promoting growth in children with CKD, providing valuable insights for physicians treating this patient population.

Objective: Adjacent segment disease (ASD) is considered any abnormal process that develops in the mobile segment next to spinal fusion, accompanied by related symptoms. To evaluate the efficacy and complications of oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF) combined with bridge-locking fusion on ASD after lumbar fusion.

Methods: A total of 35 ASD patients who required re-operation after lumbar fusion in our hospital from March 2014 to March 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, among which 13 cases (seven males and six females; 62.

Secondary structural and functional abnormalities of the neurovascular unit are important pathological mechanisms following traumatic brain injury (TBI). The neurovascular unit maintains blood-brain barrier and vascular integrity through interactions among glial cells, pericytes and endothelial cells. Trauma-induced neuroinflammation and oxidative stress may act as initiating factors for pathological damage after TBI, which in turn impairs cerebral microcirculatory function.

Parametric population pharmacokinetics of linezolid: A systematic review.

Br J Clin Pharmacol

September 2022

Department of Pharmacy, Shanghai Chest Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.

Aims: Linezolid is often used for the infections caused by drug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria. Recent studies suggest that large between-subject variability (BSV) and within-subject variability could alter drug pharmacokinetics (PK) during linezolid therapy due to pathophysiological changes. This review synthesized information on linezolid population PK studies and summarized the significant covariates that influence linezolid PK.

Congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD) is a congenital malformation of the male reproductive system and one of the important causes of obstructive azoospermia and male infertility. It is currently recognized that the main cause of CBAVD is the mutation of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator gene (CFTR). And the mutations of adhesion G protein-coupled receptor G2 (ADGRG2), solute carrier family 9 isoform 3 (SLC9A3) and other genes are also found to be involved in the development and progression of CBAVD.

Article Synopsis
  • Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) helps treat certain stomach infections, but we need to understand the risks and how to pick healthy stool donors better.
  • In a study in China from 2017 to 2019, researchers used online surveys and medical tests to find suitable stool donors, selecting 66 out of over 2000 participants.
  • They created a new tool to evaluate donors and found that each donor’s gut bacteria stay more consistent over time compared to differences between different donors.

Background: Preoperative serum gamma-glutamyl transferase (γ-GT) levels is significantly related to the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but its clinical value in the management of postoperative adjuvant transarterial chemoembolization (PA-TACE) has rarely been explored. This study aimed to investigate whether γ-GT levels could be taken as a biomarker to guide the management of PA-TACE in resectable HCC.

Methods: HCC patients receiving radical resection were identified through the primary liver cancer big data (PLCBD) from December 2012 to December 2015.
