Daytime radiative cooling is a technique that relies on reflecting sunlight and radiating heat through mid-infrared wavelengths to cool objects. However, most daytime radiative cooling materials are not transparent, cannot be used for vehicle windows or other objects that need to retain their original color, and are susceptible to rain, dust, and other contamination, resulting in reduced cooling performance. Here, we developed a transparent, self-cleaning, radiative cooling, highly flexible PVDF composite film (PPF film), which was prepared by solvent evaporation phase conversion method and scraping coating method.

Cross-kingdom RNA interference (ckRNAi) is a mechanism of interspecies communication where small RNAs (sRNAs) are transported from one organism to another; these sRNAs silence target genes in trans by loading into host AGO proteins. In this work, we investigated the occurrence of ckRNAi in Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Symbiosis (AMS). We used an in silico prediction analysis to identify a sRNA (Rir2216) from the AM fungus Rhizophagus irregularis and its putative plant gene target, the Medicago truncatula MtWRKY69 transcription factor.

The di-π-methane (DPM) rearrangement is an important organic photorearrangement that converts 1,4-diene-containing compounds to vinyl cyclopropanes, often resulting in extensive, synthetically valuable restructuring of the substrate's carbon framework. We investigated the influence of Lewis and Brønsted acids on the DPM rearrangement of dibenzobarrelenes. These studies have culminated in the identification of a dual chiral Brønsted acid-iridium photosensitizer system that enables the first highly enantioselective catalytic all-carbon DPM rearrangement.

Interfacial cross-linking was used to prepare composite organic solvent nanofiltration (OSN) membranes comprising a polydopamine (PDA) active layer formed on a polybenzimidazole (PBI) substrate. Dibromo--xylene (DBX) was employed as a cross-linking agent to make the composite membranes chemically stable against harsh polar aprotic solvents. The interfacial cross-linking of PDA/PBI allowed for finely tuning the molecular weight cutoff (MWCO) of the membrane, resulting in a membrane with precise molecular separation capabilities for OSN.

Covalent drugs provide pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic advantages over reversible agents. However, covalent strategies have been developed mostly to target cysteine (Cys) residues, which are rarely found in binding sites. Among other nucleophilic residues that could be in principle used for the design of covalent drugs, histidine (His) has not been given proper attention despite being in principle an attractive residue to pursue but underexplored.

With the rapid expansion of microplastic research and reliance on semantic descriptors, there is an increasing need for plastic pollution data harmonization. Data standards have been developed but are seldom implemented across research sectors, geographic regions, environmental media, or size classes of plastic pollution. Harmonization of existing data is currently hindered by increasingly large datasets using thousands of different categorical variable descriptors, as well as various metrics used to describe particle abundance and differing size ranges studied across groups.

This study involved producing aerogels using activated carbon (AC) and nanocellulose (NC). Two distinct structured composites, AC composite aerogel (ACCA) and NC composite aerogel (NCCA), were developed by separately mixing AC and NC with identical proportions of cross-linked biopolymers: hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), methylcellulose (MC), and chitosan (C). These aerogels were evaluated for their capability to adsorb ethylene gas through batch experiments, while the physical and chemical characteristics were thoroughly examined to determine their feasibility of removing ethylene.

Laser welding was performed using different filler wires, ER70S steel, commercially pure iron, and pure nickel filler, in the context of welding X80 pipeline steel to assess the microstructure and mechanical properties of the weld metal. Introducing an ER70S wire promoted acicular ferrite formation in the fusion zone, compared to a bainitic microstructure in an autogenous laser weld. The use of pure iron wire was considered as a potential strategy for reducing hardenability, as it led to the dilution of alloying elements in the fusion zone, increasing ferrite content and reducing weld metal hardness to a level compliant with API pipeline standards.

We report the synthesis of heteroleptic iron complexes supported by both a bis-phosphine ligand (depe) and a bis-NHC ligand. The mixed ligand sets provide access to iron (0) adducts of N and CO that are highly activated, in comparison to homoleptic ( Fe(depe)L) variants. Computational and experimental studies revealed the mixed ligand set distorts the geometric and electronic structure to yield an unusually basic iron.
