Regorafenib Treatment for Recurrent Glioblastoma Beyond Bevacizumab-Based Therapy: A Large, Multicenter, Real-Life Study.

Background/objectives: In the REGOMA trial, regorafenib demonstrated an overall survival advantage over lomustine, and it has become a recommended treatment for recurrent glioblastoma in guidelines. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of regorafenib as a third-line treatment for patients with recurrent glioblastoma who progressed while taking bevacizumab-based therapy.

Methods: This retrospective, multicenter study in Turkey included 65 patients treated between 2021 and 2023 across 19 oncology centers.

Multi-institutional analysis of cervical esophageal carcinoma patients treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy: TROD 01-005 study.

The aim of this study was to examine the prognostic factors and treatment outcomes of cervical esophageal carcinoma (CEC) patients who underwent definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT). The clinical data of 175 biopsy-confirmed CEC patients treated with definitive CRT between April 2005 and September 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The prognostic factors predicting overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) were assessed in uni- and multivariable analyses.

Antibiotic therapy for pan-drug-resistant infections.

Antibiotic resistance occurs when microorganisms resist the drugs used against the infection caused by them and neutralize their effects over time using various mechanisms. These mechanisms include preventing drug absorption, changing drug targets, drug inactivating, and using efflux pumps, which ultimately cause drug resistance, which is named pan-drug-resistant (PDR) infection if it is resistant to all antimicrobial agents. This type of drug resistance causes many problems in society and faces the health system with difficulties; therefore their treatment is crucial and encourages doctors to develop new drugs to treat them.

Clinical outcomes of cyclin-dependent kinase 4-6 (CDK 4-6) inhibitors in patients with male breast cancer: A multicenter study.

Background: Since breast cancer is less common in men than in women, data on the use of new therapeutic agents, including cyclin-dependent kinase 4-6 (CDK 4-6) inhibitors, are limited in patients with metastatic hormone receptor positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) male breast cancer. Therefore; we aimed to investigate the treatment responses of metastatic HR+, HER2-male breast cancer patients treated with CDK 4-6 inhibitors in a multicenter real-life cohort.

Methods: Male patients with a diagnosis of HR+ and HER2-metastatic breast cancer, treated with any CDK 4-6 inhibitor, were included in the study.

Assessment of biochemical bone markers of osteoporosis in children with thalassemia major.

Background: Beta thalassemia major (β-TM) is a common cause of skeletal morbidity and is associated with increased bone fracture risk, particularly in inadequately transfused children. The aim of this study was to investigate some potential biochemical markers as possible early predictors of BMD variations in children with β-TM.

The efficacy of rituximab in patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder: A real-world study from Turkey.

Background: Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) are a group of antibody-mediated chronic inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system. Rituximab is a monoclonal antibody that leads to a reduction in disease activity.

Introduction: Growing evidence has demonstrated that diastolic heart failure occurs in about half of heart failure (HF) patients. We investigated the effects of perindopril on echocardiographic parameters, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class and serum N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels in patients with diastolic heart failure.

Objective: To determine the effect of gum chewing on bowel function postoperatively in women after cesarean delivery under spinal anesthesia.

Methods: This semi-experimental study was conducted at Near East University Hospital Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with 45 women in both the +experimental and control groups, between October 2016 and June 2017. The women in the experimental group chewed gum two hours after surgery until gut sounds were heard and nutrition was given orally.

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is an inherited autoinflammatory disorder that can result in attacks with accompanying recurrent episodes of fever, serositis, and skin rash. MiRNAs are demonstrated to be associated with a number of other diseases; however, no comprehensive study has revealed its association with FMF disease. The aim is to investigate the role of microRNAs in FMF.

Crystal structure and photoluminescence properties of a new monomeric copper(II) complex: bis(3-{[(3-hydroxypropyl)imino]methyl}-4-nitrophenolato-κO,N,O')copper(II).

Copper(II)-Schiff base complexes have attracted extensive interest due to their structural, electronic, magnetic and luminescence properties. The title novel monomeric Cu complex, [Cu(CHNO)], has been synthesized by the reaction of 3-{[(3-hydroxypropyl)imino]methyl}-4-nitrophenol (HL) and copper(II) acetate monohydrate in methanol, and was characterized by elemental analysis, UV and IR spectroscopies, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and a photoluminescence study. The Cu atom is located on a centre of inversion and is coordinated by two imine N atoms, two phenoxy O atoms in a mutual trans disposition and two hydroxy O atoms in axial positions, forming an elongated octahedral geometry.

Unusual case of spinal epidermoid cyst and a concomitant spinal arachnoid cyst.

A 38-year-old woman presented with a 12-month history of subjective weakness and pain in her legs. Thoracolumbar MRI revealed two spinal intradural cystic lesions at T5-6 and T11 levels, respectively. The lesion located at the T5-6 level was heterogeneously hyperintense on T2-weighted images and heterogeneously hypointense on T1-weighted images.

Anthropometric findings from birth to adulthood and their relation with karyotpye distribution in Turkish girls with Turner syndrome.

To evaluate the anthropometric features of girls with Turner syndrome (TS) at birth and presentation and the effect of karyotype on these parameters. Data were collected from 842 patients with TS from 35 different centers, who were followed-up between 1984 and 2014 and whose diagnosis age ranged from birth to 18 years. Of the 842 patients, 122 girls who received growth hormone, estrogen or oxandrolone were excluded, and 720 girls were included in the study.
