Background/objectives: In the REGOMA trial, regorafenib demonstrated an overall survival advantage over lomustine, and it has become a recommended treatment for recurrent glioblastoma in guidelines. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of regorafenib as a third-line treatment for patients with recurrent glioblastoma who progressed while taking bevacizumab-based therapy.

Methods: This retrospective, multicenter study in Turkey included 65 patients treated between 2021 and 2023 across 19 oncology centers.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study analyzed the surgical treatment and management of patients with traumatic thoracolumbar spinal fractures from 2019 to 2021, dividing them into two groups based on continuous (Group 1) and noncontinuous (Group 2) fractures.
  • - Researchers evaluated various factors, including age, gender, fracture type, surgical details, and postoperative outcomes, while excluding patients above 65 and those with single-level or pathological fractures.
  • - Results indicated that while certain demographic and clinical factors were similar, significant differences were found in operation duration, blood loss, hospitalization length, number of fusions, and instrumentation between the two fracture types.

Article Synopsis
  • * This study analyzed the effectiveness of two treatments, pazopanib and sunitinib, in non-ccRCC patients across 22 hospitals, looking at progression-free survival, overall survival, and patient response rates.
  • * The findings suggest that pazopanib and sunitinib have similar efficacy, with specific patient characteristics affecting outcomes; pazopanib could be considered a viable treatment option alongside sunitinib and cabozantinib.

Article Synopsis
  • The MONALEESA-7 study is the only phase 3 research on CDK 4-6 inhibitors for premenopausal patients with hormone receptor-positive, HER2 negative metastatic breast cancer, but there is limited data on palbociclib's effectiveness.
  • Our multicenter, retrospective study included 319 patients to evaluate the effectiveness of palbociclib and ribociclib in first-line treatment and how dose reduction due to neutropenia affects progression-free survival (PFS).
  • Results showed similar median PFS for both drugs (26.83 months for palbociclib and 29.86 months for ribociclib) and no significant impact of dose reduction on effectiveness, with P

The aim of this study was to examine the prognostic factors and treatment outcomes of cervical esophageal carcinoma (CEC) patients who underwent definitive chemoradiotherapy (CRT). The clinical data of 175 biopsy-confirmed CEC patients treated with definitive CRT between April 2005 and September 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. The prognostic factors predicting overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) were assessed in uni- and multivariable analyses.

The axillary nodes' status is essential in determining the treatment algorithm according to complete clinical staging. Unnecessary axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) has been prevented after sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) has occurred in current practice. However, approximately half of patients with positive SLNB do not have axillary metastatic lymph nodes.

Antibiotic resistance occurs when microorganisms resist the drugs used against the infection caused by them and neutralize their effects over time using various mechanisms. These mechanisms include preventing drug absorption, changing drug targets, drug inactivating, and using efflux pumps, which ultimately cause drug resistance, which is named pan-drug-resistant (PDR) infection if it is resistant to all antimicrobial agents. This type of drug resistance causes many problems in society and faces the health system with difficulties; therefore their treatment is crucial and encourages doctors to develop new drugs to treat them.

Background: Since breast cancer is less common in men than in women, data on the use of new therapeutic agents, including cyclin-dependent kinase 4-6 (CDK 4-6) inhibitors, are limited in patients with metastatic hormone receptor positive (HR+), human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HER2-) male breast cancer. Therefore; we aimed to investigate the treatment responses of metastatic HR+, HER2-male breast cancer patients treated with CDK 4-6 inhibitors in a multicenter real-life cohort.

Methods: Male patients with a diagnosis of HR+ and HER2-metastatic breast cancer, treated with any CDK 4-6 inhibitor, were included in the study.

Palatability of the infant formulas lacking cow milk protein formulas is reported by parents to be an important drawback. The purpose of this study is to examine decisions made by mothers of infants having cow milk protein allergy, and physicians concerning the palatability of unflavored extensively hydrolyzed formulas and amino acid-based formulas. We conducted a multi-center, randomized, single-blinded, observational taste study involving 149 pediatricians from gastroenterology and allergy subspecialties at 14 tertiary healthcare units from different regions of Turkey and involving 94 mothers of infants with cow milk protein allergy.

Background: Beta thalassemia major (β-TM) is a common cause of skeletal morbidity and is associated with increased bone fracture risk, particularly in inadequately transfused children. The aim of this study was to investigate some potential biochemical markers as possible early predictors of BMD variations in children with β-TM.

Methods: The study included 38 children with β-TM and 40 sex-age matched controls.

Objective: Gleason scoring is the grading system which strongly predicts the prognosis of prostate cancer. However, even being one of the most commonly used systems, the presence of different interobserver agreement rates push the uropathologists update the definitons of the Gleason patterns. In this study, we aimed to determine the interobserver agreement variability among 7 general pathologists, and one expert uropathologist from 6 different centers.

Introduction: Growing evidence has demonstrated that diastolic heart failure occurs in about half of heart failure (HF) patients. We investigated the effects of perindopril on echocardiographic parameters, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class and serum N-terminal pro B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels in patients with diastolic heart failure.

Methods: In total, 108 diastolic heart failure patients aged ≥ 50 years, who had diastolic dysfunction with an ejection fraction ≥ 50%, were enrolled and randomised to one of the two study groups.

Faculty of Medicine, Department of Medical Genetic, Ege University, Izmir, Turkey.

Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) is an inherited autoinflammatory disorder that can result in attacks with accompanying recurrent episodes of fever, serositis, and skin rash. MiRNAs are demonstrated to be associated with a number of other diseases; however, no comprehensive study has revealed its association with FMF disease. The aim is to investigate the role of microRNAs in FMF.

Copper(II)-Schiff base complexes have attracted extensive interest due to their structural, electronic, magnetic and luminescence properties. The title novel monomeric Cu complex, [Cu(CHNO)], has been synthesized by the reaction of 3-{[(3-hydroxypropyl)imino]methyl}-4-nitrophenol (HL) and copper(II) acetate monohydrate in methanol, and was characterized by elemental analysis, UV and IR spectroscopies, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and a photoluminescence study. The Cu atom is located on a centre of inversion and is coordinated by two imine N atoms, two phenoxy O atoms in a mutual trans disposition and two hydroxy O atoms in axial positions, forming an elongated octahedral geometry.
