Background: One of the common causes of suboptimal control of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in levothyroxine-treated hypothyroidism is coadministration of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Morning administration of pantoprazole has been shown to suppress intragastric pH to a greater extent. We therefore aimed to determine the effect of pantoprazole at different time points of the day on thyroid function test (TFT) in levothyroxine-treated overt primary hypothyroidism.

Repair of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcal (MRSA) chronic osteomyelitis and resulting bone defect is one of the major challenges in orthopaedics. Previous study has shown the effectiveness of antibiotic loaded biodegradable composite bone cement with in vitro tests and in the treatment of experimental osteomyelitis. The cement is composed of poly(lactide-co-glycolide) encapsulated antibiotic-biphasic calcium phosphate granule complex and additive antibiotic powder in gypsum binder.

Deciphering the Interregional and Interhemisphere Proteome of the Human Brain in the Context of the Human Proteome Project.

This study, which performs an extensive mass spectrometry-based analysis of 19 brain regions from both left and right hemispheres, presents the first draft of the human brain interhemispheric proteome. This high-resolution proteomics data provides comprehensive coverage of 3300 experimentally measured (nonhypothetical) proteins across multiple regions, allowing the characterization of protein-centric interhemispheric differences and synapse biology, and portrays the regional mapping of specific regions for brain disorder biomarkers. In the context of the Human Proteome Project (HPP), the interhemispheric proteome data reveal specific markers like chimerin 2 (CHN2) in the cerebellar vermis, olfactory marker protein (OMP) in the olfactory bulb, and ankyrin repeat domain 63 (ANKRD63) in basal ganglia, in line with regional brain transcriptomes mapped in the Human Protein Atlas (HPA).

It is composed of a variable mixture of collagen, inflammatory cells, and usually bland spindle cells showing myofibroblastic differentiation.

The incidence of situs inversus totalis is 1/10,000 to 1/50,000 live births. A 43-year-old female patient was incidentally diagnosed to have situs inversus totalis with severe mitral and aortic stenosis. The patient was thoroughly assessed, and the plan of surgery was modified accordingly.

To study safety, efficacy (hemoglobin and hemoglobin F percentage increment in non-transfusion-dependent patients and decrease in transfusion frequency in transfusion-dependent patients), and determinants of response of decitabine in patients with HbE/β-thalassemia. We have compared conventional three-port laparoscopic appendicectomy (LA) and laparoscope-assisted appendicectomy (LAA). In period from August 2010 to January 2012, 77 patients underwent appendicectomy by a minimally invasive procedure (39 LA and 38 LAA), at Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata.
