Prospectively collected surgeon indications for discontinuation of a lengthening program for early-onset scoliosis.

Introduction: At some point after children with early-onset scoliosis (EOS) undergo implantation of a distraction construct to control deformity and promote growth, a decision is made to discontinue lengthening. The purpose of this study was to evaluate surgeon indications for discontinuation of a lengthening program and to evaluate patient outcomes.

Methods: As a part of a multicenter database, surgeons prospectively completed a questionnaire at the completion of growth-friendly treatment.

Lumbar Epidural Steroid Injections.

Lumbar epidural steroid injections under fluoroscopic guidance are used very commonly for the treatment of low back and lower extremity radicular pain. These procedures have been shown to be effective for pain relief in the short term and are relatively safe. The indications, evidence, and safety considerations for 2 different techniques-namely, interlaminar and transforaminal-are discussed.

Alternative Treatment Modalities and Its Effect in Older Populations.

Aging is an inevitable multifactorial process. Advances in health care and technology have led to an increase on expected life span that can reach an average of 90 years in the next few decades. Lifestyle changes that include activity, nutrition, stress management, and alternatives low-impact exercises like yoga and tai chi can help us modify some of these age-related changes and lead to an increase in the health span and quality of life of the older adults.

Sumatriptan/naproxen sodium combination versus its components administered concomitantly for the acute treatment of migraine: a pragmatic, crossover, open-label outcomes study.

Objective: Efficacy and tolerability profiles of Treximet [sumatriptan/naproxen sodium combination tablet (SNC)] have been established in clinical trials but have to date been virtually unstudied in pragmatic research. The primary objective of this study was to compare the overall satisfaction of SNC to its monotherapy components, S/N [one 100 mg Imitrex tablet (S) and two Aleve (naproxen sodium) 220 mg tablets, total dose 440 mg (N)] administered concomitantly using the Patient Perception of Migraine Questionnaire -Revised (PPMQ-R).

Methods: Adults with migraine (n = 50) without 'medication overuse headache' were treated for up to 18 migraine attacks per 3-month study period with study medication; SNC during one study period and S/N during the other study period.

Migraine treatment throughout the lifecycle.

The treatment of migraine headache is often suboptimal despite significant advances in our understanding of the pathophysiology and treatment of migraine. Children, adolescents, women and the elderly are particularly at risk of receiving inadequate or inappropriate therapy. In this review, the reader is brought up-to-date with changes to the International Headache Society diagnostic criteria for migraine.

Efficacy and tolerability of sumatriptan tablets administered during the mild-pain phase of menstrually associated migraine.

Two randomised, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled clinical trials were conducted to assess the efficacy of sumatriptan tablets, 50mg and 100mg, for treatment during the mild-pain phase of a menstrually associated migraine among patients who typically experienced moderate to severe migraine preceded by an identifiable phase of mild pain. Subjects (n = 403 in Study 1 and n = 349 in Study 2) treated one menstrually associated migraine on an outpatient basis.
