Objective: Mindfulness training can relieve posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms in military veterans and others but is inconsistently accessible. Self-guided mobile apps could improve access but their acceptability, feasibility, and benefits for veterans with PTSD have not been established. We conducted a pilot randomized trial of Mindfulness Coach (MC), a free, publicly available, trauma-informed mobile app tailored to veterans.

Psychological assessment is commonly conducted using either self-report measures or clinical interviews; the former are quick and easy to administer, and the latter are more time-consuming and require training. Self-report measures have been criticized for producing higher estimates of symptom and disorder presence relative to clinical interviews, with the assumption being that self-report measures are prone to Type 1 error. Here, we introduce the use of "clinical checks" within an existing self-report measure.

This study aimed to explore the reciprocal relationships between implementation leadership and practitioner implementation citizenship behavior during the implementation of evidence-based practices (EBPs). Data were collected at two timepoints with a time lag of six months during a national implementation of evidence-based treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder in Norwegian mental health clinics. Data from 72 leaders and 346 practitioners were analyzed with a two-wave cross-lagged panel model, accounting for the nested structure and adjusting for demographic variables.

Background: Acute traumatic stress symptoms may develop in people who have been exposed to a traumatic event. Although they are usually self-limiting in time, some people develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), a severe and debilitating condition. Pharmacological interventions have been proposed for acute symptoms to act as an indicated prevention measure for PTSD development.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aims to clarify the difference between moral injury and normative distress after experiences of potentially morally injurious events (PMIEs) using the Moral Injury and Distress Scale (MIDS).
  • Researchers analyzed data from 645 participants, including military veterans and first responders, to determine effective MIDS cut-off scores for identifying significant mental health issues like PTSD and depression.
  • They found that a MIDS score of 27 is optimal for detecting clinically relevant moral injury, with higher prevalence in minoritized racial/ethnic groups, ultimately aiding clinicians in recognizing and treating moral injury in vulnerable populations.

Prolonged exposure therapy (PE) is an evidence-based psychotherapy (EBP) for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that is underutilized in the military health system.
