Magnetite (FeO) nanoparticles have been extensively used in noninvasive cancer treatment, for example, magnetic hyperthermia (MH) and chemodynamic therapy (CDT). However, how to achieve a highly efficient MH-CDT synergistic therapy based only on a single component of FeO still remains a challenge. Herein, hollow FeO mesocrystals (MCs) are constructed via a modified solvothermal method.

Objective: This study aims to determine the risk factors and to predict the occurrence of cerebral infarction in patients with carotid artery stenosis.
Methods: Two hundred and one subjects with carotid artery stenosis were retrospectively selected from Jinshan Branch of Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital, 115 cases of which with cerebral infarction and 86 without it. Clinical tests were performed including coagulation indices, fasting glucose, serum lipid, and blood rheology.
In the pathological mechanism of pulmonary arterial hypertension, the role of apoptosis-resistant pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PVECs/AR) has been emphasized on the pulmonary vascular remodeling. In the present study, we investigated whether PVECs/AR can promote the proliferation and migration of pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs), and to study the role of miR-195-5p in the crosstalk between these two types of cells. We confirmed that PVECs/AR can promote the proliferation and migration of PASMCs in a co-culture system of AR/PVECs and PASMCs.

The objective was to assess the sensitivities and accuracies of Doppler ultrasound parameters in the second and third trimester of hypertensive pregnancies in determining perinatal outcomes. 1,054 pregnancies were retrospectively categorized into three groups (healthy pregnancies (HP, n = 988), pregnancies of hypertensive women (HypP, n = 30) and high-risk hypertension pregnancies (HRHypP, n = 36), depending on gestational hypertension as well as fetal birth weights and pregnancy outcomes. Systolic/diastolic ratio (S/D), resistance index (RI), pulsatility index (PI) of the bilateral uterine artery, umbilical artery and vein as well as venous flow velocity data were monitored by Doppler ultrasound.

Autophagy is an essential metabolic pathway by which the intracellular unwanted materials are digested within lysosomes for cellular homeostasis. It provides energy and building blocks upon starvation or other stresses. Autophagy even contributes to cell death especially under apoptosis incompetent conditions depending on the cellular contexts.

Homeodomain interacting protein kinase 2 (HIPK2) functions as either a co-repressor or a co-activator of transcriptional regulators. Dysregulation of HIPK2 is associated with cancer and neurological disease. Recently, we found that HIPK2 is also an important driver of kidney fibrosis in the HIV-1 transgenic murine model, Tg26.

Leucine-rich repeat-containing G protein-coupled receptor 4 (Lgr4) is a newfound obese-associated gene. Previous study reveals that heterozygous mutation of Lgr4 correlates with decreased body weight in human. In our recent study, we demonstrate that Lgr4 ablation promotes browning of white adipose tissue and improves whole-body metabolic status.

Objective: To observe vascular smooth muscle cell morphological changes induced by ultrasound combined with microbubbles by Atomic Force Acoustic Microscopy (AFAM).
Methods: A7r5 rat aortic smooth muscle cells were divided into groups: control group (without ultrasonic irradiation, no micro bubbles) and US+MB group (45 kHz, 0.4 W/cm(2) ultrasound irradiate for 20 seconds with a SonoVue™ concentration of [(56-140)×10(5)/mL].

Background: Previous studies of the goat heart subjected to prolonged atrial pacing induced sustained atrial fibrillation (AF). Structural changes included marked accumulation of glycogen in atrial myocytes.
Aims: In the present study, we hypothesized that glycogen deposition in canine atrial myocytes promotes paroxysmal forms of AF and is involved in fibrosis development in the later stages of AF.

Doxorubicin (Adriamycin, ADM) is an antimitotic drug used in the treatment of a wide range of malignant tumors, including acute leukemia, lymphoma, osteosarcoma, breast cancer, and lung cancer. Multidrug resistance-associated proteins (MRPs) are members of a superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, which can transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes. The aim of this study was to investigate whether there was a correlation between MRP4 and primary ADM resistance in osteosarcoma cells.

Morel-Lavallée lesions are a closed internal degloving, and open débridement can damage the only remaining blood supply to the skin. We performed percutaneous draining and débridement to treat 8 patients in whom the diagnosis of Morel-Lavallée lesions was delayed more than 1 week. Here we discuss our treatment procedures and the outcomes in these 8 patients.

Aim: To evaluate the relationship between creatinine clearance rate (CCR) and the level of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in heart failure (HF) patients and their correlations with HF severity.
Methods And Results: Two hundred and one Chinese patients were grouped according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA) classification as NYHA 1-2 and 3-4 groups and 135 cases out of heart failure patients as control group. The following variables were compared among these three groups: age, sex, body mass index (BMI), smoking status, hypertension, diabetes, NT-proBNP, creatinine (Cr), uric acid (UA), left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD), and CCR.

Introduction: The potential value of proximal femoral locking compression plate (PFLCP) for extracapsular femoral fractures has been discussed in several case reports; however, clinical control studies are lacking. Therefore, we performed a case control study to assess: (1) If PFLCP offers better functional results and fewer complications than dynamic hip screws (DHS)? (2) Which kind of extracapsular femoral fractures would benefit from PFLCP fixation?
Hypothesis: The PFLCP fixation offers better functional results and fewer complications than the DHS for the treatment of extracapsular fractures.
Patients And Methods: A total of 83 patients with extracapsular femoral fractures were recruited.

Background: Sympathetic activity involves the pathogenesis of atrial fibrillation (AF). Renal sympathetic denervation (RSD) decreases sympathetic renal afferent nerve activity, leading to decreased central sympathetic drive. The aim of this study was to identify the effects of RSD on AF inducibility induced by hyper-sympathetic activity in a canine model.

The relative or absolute deficiency of pancreatic β-cell mass function underlies the pathogenesis of diabetes. It is necessary to alleviate the metabolic stress and reduce the demand for insulin to decrease the effects of mutations affecting β-cell expansion. Butyrate is a natural nutrient existed in food and can also be produced physiologically through the intestinal fermentation of fiber.

Metabolic impairments in maternal obesity and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) induce an abnormal environment in peripheral blood and cause vascular structure alterations which affect the placental development and function. A GDM model was developed using C57BL/6J female mice fed with high fat food (HF) (40% energy from fat) and a control group with control food (CF) (14% energy from fat) for 14 weeks before mating and throughout the gestation period. A subset of dams was sacrificed at gestational day (GD) 18.
