Introduction: The first biologic authorized for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) up to this date, belimumab, is currently not recommended for use during pregnancy due to lack of data. Provided that the health of the child begins with the health of the mother, pregnant patients face the dilemma of cessation or continuation of belimumab. If belimumab is stopped, there will be a risk of SLE flare and its consequences for the mother and the foetus.

Immersive 3D Virtual Reality-Based Clip Sizing for Thoracoscopic Left Atrial Appendage Closure.

Surgical left atrial appendage (LAA) closure using epicardial clips has become popular in stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. Optimal placement of the clip is essential to achieve complete LAA occlusion and to prevent complications due to compression of the circumflex artery. We determine the added value of immersive virtual reality (VR) in accurately assessing LAA base size and selection of an appropriately sized clip.

Determinants of sexual function in male patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Objectives: Our study aims to describe the association between SLE and sexual function, analysing demographic variables, comorbidities and other disease-related factors. As an exploratory objective, the impact of asking about sexual function during outpatient consultation was evaluated.

Methods: From 2018 to 2019, we invited sexually active men diagnosed with SLE to complete questionnaires that evaluated their sexual function and quality of life.

Background: Major aortopulmonary collateral arteries (MAPCAs), as seen in patients with pulmonary atresia, are arteries that supply blood from the aorta to the lungs and often require surgical intervention. To achieve complete repair in the least number of interventions, optimal imaging of the pulmonary arterial anatomy and MAPCAs is critical. 3D virtual reality (3D-VR) is a promising and upcoming new technology that could potentially ameliorate current imaging shortcomings.

One-year Mortality of Cancer Patients with an Unplanned ICU Admission: A Cohort Analysis Between 2008 and 2017 in the Netherlands.

A decrease in short-term mortality of critically ill cancer patients with an unplanned intensive care unit (ICU) admission has been described. Few studies describe a change over time of 1-year mortality. Therefore, we examined the 1-year mortality of cancer patients (hematological or solid) with an unplanned ICU admission and we described whether the mortality changed over time.

Reconstruction of the Aortic Arch in Neonates and Infants: The Importance of Patch Material.

Humanized liver mouse models are crucial tools in liver research, specifically in the fields of liver cell biology, viral hepatitis and drug metabolism. The livers of these humanized mouse models are repopulated by 3-dimensional islands of fully functional primary human hepatocytes (PHH), which are notoriously difficult to maintain in vitro. As low efficiency and high cost hamper widespread use, optimization is of great importance.

Fate of the Arterial Origin of Major Aortopulmonary Collateral Arteries After Unifocalization.

Background: During unifocalization procedures for pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect and major aortopulmonary collateral arteries, collateral arteries are either ligated or detached. Not much is known of the fate of the remaining arterial origins in the long term. Available computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of the intrathoracic arteries was examined to investigate possible abnormalities at the former position of the collateral arteries as well as ascending aortic diameters.

Barriers and Facilitators to the International Implementation of Standardized Outcome Measures in Clinical Cleft Practice.

Objective: To identify barriers and facilitators to international implementation of a prospective system for standardized outcomes measurement in cleft care.

Design: Cleft teams that have implemented the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement Standard Set for cleft care were invited to participate in this 2-part qualitative study: (1) an exploratory survey among clinicians, health information technology professionals, and project coordinators, and (2) semistructured interviews of project leads. Thematic content analysis was performed, with organization of themes according to the dimensions of the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation and maintenance (RE-AIM) framework: reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance.

Cardiac Catheterizations in Patients With Prior Coronary Bypass Surgery: Impact of Access Strategy on Short-Term Safety and Long-Term Efficacy Outcomes.

Little data are available on access strategy outcomes for cardiac catheterizations in patients with prior coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). We investigated the effect of transradial access (TRA) and transfemoral access (TFA) on short-term major vascular complications (MVC) and long-term major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). In this single-center, retrospective cohort study, 1084 patients met our inclusion criteria (TRA = 469; TFA = 615).

Harsh Parenting and Child Brain Morphology: A Population-Based Study.

Evidence suggests that maltreatment shapes the child's brain. Little is known, however, about how normal variation in parenting influences the child neurodevelopment. We examined whether harsh parenting is associated with the brain morphology in 2,410 children from a population-based cohort.

Embryologically Based Classification Specifies Gender Differences in the Prevalence of Orofacial Cleft Subphenotypes.

Background: A recently published validated classification system divides all orofacial cleft (OFC) subphenotypes into groups based on underlying developmental mechanisms, that is, fusion and differentiation, and their timing, that is, early and late periods, in embryogenesis of the primary and secondary palates.

Aims: The aim of our study was to define gender differences in prevalence for all subphenotypes in newborns with OFC in the Netherlands.

Methods: This was a retrospective cross-sectional study on children with OFC born from 2006 to 2016.

Change in Lifestyle Behaviors After Preconception Care: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of preconception care (PCC) consultations by change in lifestyle behaviors.

Setting And Intervention: Women in deprived neighborhoods of 14 Dutch municipalities were encouraged to visit a general practitioner or midwife for PCC.

Sample: The study included women aged 18 to 41 years who had a PCC consultation.
