The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a morally charged space in which parents may be confronted with difficult decisions about the treatment of their newborns, decisions often complicated and created by the increasing use of technologies. This paper adopts a postphenomenological approach to explore the ethical consequences of technological mediation on parental treatment decision-making in the NICU. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with parents of children who received invasive technological support in the NICU to better understand how they made treatment decisions or decisions about specific interventions during their child's hospitalization.

Lung ultrasound (US) is a well-established imaging tool in the inpatient and critical care setting. It has proven its worth in the rapid bedside diagnosis of a variety of conditions pertaining to the lungs and the thorax. Lung US was initially introduced as a bedside imaging tool to evaluate the size and characteristics of pleural effusion.

Youth undergoing cancer treatment and hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) spend significant time in the hospital, which is disruptive to their physical, social, and emotional development. Therapeutic recreation (TR) can help individuals with an illness maintain or improve their health, quality of life, and physical functioning. TR is an understudied intervention, particularly with youth in the hospital setting.

Autoimmune disease of the head and neck (H&N) could be primary or secondary to systemic diseases, medications, or malignancies. Immune-mediated diseases of the H&N are not common in daily practice of radiologists; the diagnosis is frequently delayed because of the non-specific initial presentation and lack of familiarity with some of the specific imaging and clinical features. In this review, we aim to provide a practical diagnostic approach based on the specific radiological findings for each disease.

Anal cancer is primarily caused by high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV), is associated with HIV infection, and has a very high incidence among men who have sex with men (MSM). We assessed prevalence of hrHPV, and factors associated with hrHPV in anal canal specimens collected in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from HIV-positive and HIV-negative MSM. MSM were recruited using respondent-driven sampling in this cross-sectional study.

While screening has improved early detection of primary breast cancers, it may also identify metastasis to the breast in rare instances. High-grade carcinomas identified on breast screening may have non-specific morphology and immunoprofiles, making distinction from metastasis problematic. High-grade carcinomas frequently lose expression of specific tumor markers.

Objectives: To provide an overview of contemporary therapies for the James Lind Alliance priority setting partnership for degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) question: 'Can novel therapies, including stem-cell, gene, pharmacological and neuroprotective therapies, be identified to improve the health and wellbeing of people living with DCM and slow down disease progression?'
Methods: A review of the literature was conducted to outline the pathophysiology of DCM and present contemporary therapies that may hold therapeutic value in 3 broad categories of neuroprotection, neuroregeneration, and neuromodulation.
Results: Chronic spinal cord compression leads to ischaemia, neuroinflammation, demyelination, and neuronal loss.

Objectives: To analyze the association between social determinants of health (SDOH), as measured by the Area Deprivation Index (ADI), and the severity of injury and types of domestic violence (DV) victimization among women (≥18 years of age) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Methods: Neighborhood ADI data from the American Community Survey (2014-2018) were merged with Milwaukee Police Department DV data (2013-2017). ADI included multiple SDOH domains (education, employment, income/poverty, and housing quality).

We report a unique case of a post-menopausal female who presented with a lesion on the areola. A biopsy of the lesion demonstrated a pagetoid intraepithelial neoplasm suggesting a differential diagnosis of mammary Paget disease and pagetoid Bowen disease. Excision of the lesion confirmed the diagnosis of mammary Paget disease with typical histological appearance.

Purpose: Neighborhood factors such as crime, discrimination, and violence are increasingly recognized as correlates of poor glycemic control. However, pathways for these relationships are unclear. This study examined stress and self-efficacy as potential pathways for the relationship between neighborhood factors and glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Background: Well-differentiated liposarcoma (WDLPS) is a low-grade soft tissue sarcoma with a propensity for local recurrence. The necessity of obtaining microscopically free surgical margins (R0) to minimize local recurrence is not clear. This study evaluates recurrence-free survival (RFS) of extremity WDLPS in relation to resection margin status.

Organ donation-related education is offered, and decisions are made at state Department of Motor Vehicles; however, little is known about Muslim Americans' attitudes toward these common practices. Are participants comfortable learning about deceased organ donation in the Department of Motor Vehicles setting? Are participants prepared to make deceased organ donation-related decisions at the Department of Motor Vehicles? A survey of Muslim Americans attending an educational workshop at 4 mosques in two US cities. Primary study outcomes were self-reported (a) preparedness to make deceased donation-related decisions and (b) comfort with receiving organ donation education in the license renewal setting.

Objectives: Human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated cancers account for about 9% of the cancer mortality burden in the United States; however, survival differs among sociodemographic factors. We determine sociodemographic and clinical variables associated with HPV-associated cancer survival.
Methods: Data derived from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 18 cancer registry were analyzed for a cohort of adult patients diagnosed with a first primary HPV-associated cancer (anal, cervical, oropharyngeal, penile, vaginal, and vulvar cancers), between 2007 and 2015.

Methods: We present the case of a 57-year-old man with history of a previous left axillary-femoral-femoral bypass who presented with acute limb-threatening ischemia as a result of bypass thrombosis managed with a right axillary-femoral bypass for limb salvage.

images of human cone photoreceptors have been shown to vary in their reflectance both spatially and temporally. While it is generally accepted that the unique anatomy and physiology of the photoreceptors themselves drives this behavior, the exact mechanisms have not been fully elucidated as most studies on these phenomena have been limited to the human retina. Unlike humans, animal models offer the ability to experimentally manipulate the retina and perform direct and comparisons.
