MRI and MRCP play an essential role in diagnosing CP by imaging pancreatic parenchyma and ducts. Quantitative and semi-quantitative MR imaging offers potential advantages over conventional MR imaging, including simplicity of analysis, quantitative and population-based comparisons, and more direct interpretation of disease progression or response to drug therapy. Using parenchymal imaging techniques may provide quantitative metrics for determining the presence and severity of acinar cell loss and aid in diagnosing CP.

Obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are risk factors for fragility fractures. It is unknown whether this elevated risk is due to a diet favoring obesity or the diabetes that often occurs with obesity. Therefore, we hypothesized that the fracture resistance of bone is lower in mice fed with a high fat diet (45% kcal; HFD) than in mice that fed on a similar, control diet (10% kcal; LFD), regardless of whether the mice developed overt T2D.

Background And Aims: In response to documented duodenoscope-related infectious outbreaks of multidrug-resistant organisms, the Food and Drug Administration has recommended a transition to duodenoscopes with innovative designs, including duodenoscopes with disposable components or fully disposable duodenoscopes. We aim to characterize the learning curve (LC) for a single-use disposable duodenoscope.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of a prospectively collected database from 31 patients who underwent ERCP by a single, experienced operator using the EXALT Model D® (Boston Scientific, Marlborough) disposable duodenoscope at a single tertiary referral center.

Purpose Of Review: This review summarizes recent advances in the assessment of bone quality using non-X-ray techniques.

Recent Findings: Quantitative ultrasound (QUS) provides multiple measurements of bone characteristics based on the propagation of sound through bone, the attenuation of that sound, and different processing techniques. QUS parameters and model predictions based on backscattered signals can discriminate non-fracture from fracture cases with accuracy comparable to standard bone mineral density (BMD).

Despite a steady increase in the number of organs available for transplant in the United States, over the last two decades there has been a precipitous decrease in the annual number of pancreas transplants performed. One overlooked consequence of this decline in pancreas transplant volume has been a decrease in experience in proper pancreas procurement and transplantation techniques for transplant surgeons as well as fewer trained abdominal transplant fellows entering the workforce certified for pancreas procurement and transplantation, with those achieving certification having less-developed judgment, skills, and experience. To augment current fellowship training and provide a concentrated experience in pancreas procurement and transplantation, the ASTS developed a hands-on surgical skills workshop focused on proper techniques for pancreas allograft procurement and backbench preparation.

Investigating the relationship between genetic variation and phenotypic traits is a key issue in quantitative genetics. Specifically for Alzheimer's disease, the association between genetic markers and quantitative traits remains vague while, once identified, will provide valuable guidance for the study and development of genetics-based treatment approaches. Currently, to analyze the association of two modalities, sparse canonical correlation analysis (SCCA) is commonly used to compute one sparse linear combination of the variable features for each modality, giving a pair of linear combination vectors in total that maximizes the cross-correlation between the analyzed modalities.

Background: Pediatric traumatic abdominal wall hernias are rare but potentially devastating injuries. Although classically considered to be caused by handlebar injuries from bicycle accidents, our anecdotal experience suggests pediatric traumatic abdominal wall hernias are far more likely to occur following road traffic accidents and have a high association with other significant intra-abdominal injuries.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the frequency, mechanisms of injury, and associated injuries of traumatic abdominal wall hernias in the pediatric population.

Methods: The prospective study population included 820 participants enrolled in the PROCEED study from nine clinical centers between June 2017 and December 2021. In this paper, we describe commonalities between birding and radiology, hopefully inspiring readers to get outdoors and commune with nature in this restorative wellness activity.

Introduction: While improvements have been made to risk assessment of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) patients, there is a critical need for a uniform and more precise stratification system of their care. To address this unmet clinical need, a prognostic 40-gene expression profile (40-GEP) test has recently been developed and independently validated to show improved stratification of metastatic risk in high-risk cSCC patients compared with current staging systems.

Methods: Two cSCC cases, both male with similar patient profiles and the same staging status across two different staging systems, yet with opposing outcomes, were chosen for retrospective review of their primary biopsy using the 40-GEP test.

Background: Betamethasone (BMZ) is used to accelerate fetal lung maturation in women with threatened preterm birth, but its efficacy is variable and limited by the lack of patient individualization in its dosing and administration. To determine sources of variability and potential opportunities for individualization of therapy, the objective of this study was to evaluate maternal factors associated with development of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in a cohort of women who received betamethasone.
