Over the past three decades, complex care and treatment have increasingly become the responsibility of parents as home-based care providers, yet little is known about parents' caregiving experiences when considering the variety of care tasks. It is imperative to gain insight into the challenges parents face when managing treatment and care of their child with cancer to ensure optimal parental support and prior to further expansion of home-based parent caregiving. This study aimed to explore the experiences of children and adolescents with cancer, who had received treatment through a portable infusion pump, and their parents in managing different care tasks.

Long-term weight loss can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes for people living with obesity and reduce complications for patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. We investigated whether a telehealth lifestyle-coaching program (Liva) leads to long-term (24 months) weight loss compared to usual care. In a randomized controlled trial,  = 340 participants living with obesity with or without type 2 diabetes were enrolled and randomized via an automated computer algorithm to an intervention group ( = 200) or to a control group ( = 140).

Introduction: Specialist management of asthma has been shown to associate with socioeconomic status (SES). However, little is known about the influence of SES on care burden in universal healthcare settings.

Methods: Patients aged 18-45 years using inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) were followed in national databases.

Readiness, acceptance and use of digital patient reported outcome in an outpatient clinic.

Health Informatics J

June 2022

Department of Public Health, University of Copenhagen, Denmark; School of Health and Social Development, Deakin University, Melbourne, VIC, Australia.

Use of digital patient-reported outcomes is being introduced in care of chronic conditions, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The aim is to supplement face-to-face follow-up sessions through symptom screening, and to inform follow-up through questions about mental health and quality of life. However, little is known about who is using this as intended.

Physical activity (PA) has shown to mitigate many of the common side effects of cancer treatments. The promotion of PA by health care professionals (HCPs) can facilitate the adoption of PA by patients with cancer. Drawing on an empirical ethics of care approach, this article explores how the delivery of PA recommendations is done within clinical cancer care.

Background: A majority of persons with dementia in Sweden live in their own homes and are often cared for by family members. Caring for a family member may be a positive experience. It may, however, also be a negative experience as symptoms like disturbing behavior and delusions may be difficult to encounter.

Lack of physical activity (PA) is common among individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D). We apply a practice theory approach to investigate PA engagement in the context of T2D. Data were collected through semi-structured individual interviews ( = 23) and focus groups ( = 3x6) and analyzed by deductive-inductive reflexive thematic analysis using a practice theory framework.

Return of Benefit to Society of Publicly Funded Innovations to Combat COVID-19.

Inquiry

December 2021

Centre for Advanced Studies in Biomedical Innovation Law, Faculty of Law, 4321University of Copenhagen, Kobenhavn, Denmark.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, significant public funds have been invested worldwide into the research, development, and manufacturing of pharmaceutical products to combat the novel coronavirus. Traditionally, intellectual property (IP) rights have been justified in the pharmaceutical sector because of the time and cost associated with drug discovery and development. However, if (a) the cost of research for COVID-19 related innovations have largely been subsidized by the public through public research grants; (b) the time for development has been significantly reduced through publicly funded initiatives; and (c) manufacturing has been de-risked through taxpayer funded advance purchase agreements, should IP rights be asserted on innovations that have largely already been paid for by the public?.

Objectives: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are evaluated in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but not widely used in clinical practice. However, interest in incorporating PROMs into the management of SLE is increasing as PROMs provide a unique insight into the patient's perception of lupus disease activity. The objective was to assess agreement in PROMs answered using a web app versus an outpatient touchscreen among patients with SLE.

The asymptotic distribution of the Net Benefit estimator in presence of right-censoring.

Stat Methods Med Res

November 2021

Laboratoire de Biométrie et Biologie Evolutive, Equipe Biostatistique-Santé, France.

The benefit-risk balance is a critical information when evaluating a new treatment. The Net Benefit has been proposed as a metric for the benefit-risk assessment, and applied in oncology to simultaneously consider gains in survival and possible side effects of chemotherapies. With complete data, one can construct a U-statistic estimator for the Net Benefit and obtain its asymptotic distribution using standard results of the U-statistic theory.

Objectives: Previous research on the association between socioeconomic position (SEP) and dementia has not sufficiently accounted for the complex relationship between education and occupation. We investigated the independent and joint effects of educational attainment and occupation-based SEP on dementia.

Methods: We used register-based information about educational attainment, occupation-based SEP, and dementia from 1,210,720 individuals.

How did Sweden Fail the Pandemic?

Int J Health Serv

October 2021

4321University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Sweden has since the start of the pandemic a COVID-19 mortality rate that is 4 to 10 times higher than in the other Nordic countries. Also, measured as age-standardized all-cause excess mortality in the first half of 2020 compared to previous years Sweden failed in comparison with the other Nordic countries, but only among the elderly. Sweden has large socioeconomic and ethnic inequalities in COVID-19 mortality.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder for which there is no cure. Here, we test a dual GLP-1/GIP receptor agonist (DA4-JC) that has a cell penetrating sequence added to enhance blood-brain barrier penetration. We show in a receptor activity study that DA4-JC has balanced activity on both GLP-1 and GIP receptors but not on GLP-2 or Glucagon receptors.
