Hematologic and Serum Chemistry values of Endangered San Joaquin Kit Foxes ( Vulpes macrotis mutica) with Sarcoptic Mange.

A fatal outbreak of sarcoptic mange caused by Sarcoptes scabiei in San Joaquin kit foxes ( Vulpes macrotis mutica) in Bakersfield, California, US is causing the once-stable population to decline. Given the fatality of the disease in this already-endangered species experiencing continued population declines, city-wide interventions are underway. To optimize medical management of mange-infested kit foxes, we documented serum biochemistry and hematology values for 11 kit foxes with mange collected from January-May 2015 and compared them to historical data from 18 healthy Bakersfield kit foxes.

United States Registered Nurse Workforce Report Card and Shortage Forecast: A Revisit.

This is a reevaluation of registered nurse (RN) supply and demand from 2016 to 2030 using a previously published work forecast model and grading methodology with more recent workforce data. There will be a shortage of 154 018 RNs by 2020 and 510 394 RNs by 2030; the South and West regions will have higher shortage ratios than Northeast and Midwest regions. This reflects a nearly 50% overall improvement when compared with the authors' prior study, and the low-performing states have improved from 18 "D" and 12 "F" grades as published earlier to 13 "D" and 1 "F" in this study.

Retrospective Review of Comorbid Conditions in a Multidisciplinary Pediatric Weight Management Clinic.

A retrospective medical chart review was conducted of patients enrolled in the Fit for Healthy Weight Clinic (Fit Clinic). At initial evaluation, comorbidities were identified by the patient and pediatrician. The number of comorbidities increased with age among patients.

Noticing Learners' Strengths Through Cultural Research.

Cultural research can help to identify strengths of cultural communities that are often viewed through a deficit model. Strengths-based approaches open researchers, practitioners, and the public to seeing the logic and value of cultural practices that vary from mainstream approaches. Strengths-based approaches include and extend beyond concerns for social equity: They are necessary for scientific characterization of human cognitive and social processes as well as for effective educational and societal practices.

Synthesis of Applied Behavior Analytic Interventions for Packing in Pediatric Feeding Disorders.

Packing, which consists of holding food in the mouth for an extended time during meals, is a form of disordered feeding associated with pediatric feeding disorders. The behavior can disrupt the pace and completion of a meal and lead to increased risk of choking, inadequate food and liquid intake, and elevated caregiver stress associated with mealtimes. Applied behavior analysis research has developed and evaluated behavioral interventions to improve feeding by reducing packing.

Intervention Protocol for Investigating Yoga Implemented During Chemotherapy.

Objective: Fatigue and other treatment-related symptoms are critical therapeutic targets for improving quality of life in patients with colorectal cancer during chemotherapy. Yoga is a promising intervention for improving these therapeutic targets and has been primarily investigated in the group-class format, which is less feasible for cancer patients with high symptom burden to attend. Thus, we developed a protocol for implementing yoga individually in the clinic among patients receiving chemotherapy.

Understanding Supportive Care Factors Among African American Breast Cancer Survivors.

Introduction: Comprehensive breast cancer care includes not only diagnosis, staging, and treatment of cancer but also assessment and management of the physical, psychological, social, and informational needs, collectively known as supportive care. Several studies have documented the importance of addressing supportive care factors among breast cancer survivors. However, there appears to be a paucity of research concerning African American breast cancer survivors (AABCS).

Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell-Derived Retinal Pigmented Epithelium: A Comparative Study Between Cell Lines and Differentiation Methods.

Purpose: The application of induced pluripotent stem cell-derived retinal pigmented epithelium (iPSC-RPE) in patients with retinal degenerative disease is making headway toward the clinic, with clinical trials already underway. Multiple groups have developed methods for RPE differentiation from pluripotent cells, but previous studies have shown variability in iPSC propensity to differentiate into RPE.

Methods: This study provides a comparison between 2 different methods for RPE differentiation: (1) a commonly used spontaneous continuously adherent culture (SCAC) protocol and (2) a more rapid, directed differentiation using growth factors.

Reproductive Life Planning and Preconception Care 2015: Attitudes of English-Speaking Family Planning Patients.

Background: Reproductive life planning has become an essential element in programs designed to promote preconceptional care and increase utilization of effective contraceptive methods. This study sought to determine if women have reproductive life plans and what they think women should do to prepare for pregnancy.

Materials And Methods: Indigent English-speaking women in a family planning clinic were asked individually about their reproductive life plans, preparations needed for pregnancy, and the relative health risks of pregnancy compared to oral contraceptives.
