: Medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) accounts for 1-2% of all thyroid malignancies, and it originates from parafollicular "C" cells. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is a tumor marker, mainly for gastrointestinal malignancies. There are references in literature where elevated CEA levels may be the first finding in MTC.

Acceptability of Healthcare Professionals to Get Vaccinated against COVID-19 Two Weeks before Initiation of National Vaccination.

The greatest challenge vaccines face is that of acceptance from the general population. Healthcare professionals' (HCPs) recommendations have significant influence on general public vaccination behavior. The aim of this study was to assess the willingness of HCPs to get vaccinated against COVID-19, two weeks before initiation of vaccinations.

Clinical significance of PD-1 and PD-L1 molecules in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified: Correlation with clinical and pathological findings.

Purpose: To investigate a possible chemorefractoriness mechanism of a Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL) histological subtype, specifically of DLBCL, not otherwise specified (DLBCL, NOS), namely the effect of programmed cell death-1 (PD-1) immunoreceptor signalling, considering that the identification of additional negative prognostic factors can lead to better prognostication and therapeutic approaches.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of DLBCL, NOS patients, gathering their clinical features and combining them with PD-1 and its ligand (PD-L1) expression at the time of diagnosis as well as their response to treatment.

Results: No statistically significant difference was found when comparing PD-L1 positive to PD-L1 negative patients, while overall survival (OS) and duration of complete response (CR) were better for PD-L1 negative patients but the difference was not statistically significant.

A fifty year old male was diagnosed with bronchial HPV. He was treated with local interventional treatment argon plasma coagulation and subcutaneous injections bevacizumab. Spraying of the regions followed with a specially designed catheter with interferon-α (2b).

Evolution of Hashimoto thyroiditis in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (TIDM).

Objectives: Treatment of children with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) and particularly of those with coexistent diabetes mellitus type 1 (TIDM) and normal/mildly elevated serum TSH is controversial. The aim of the study was to evaluate the natural course of HT in children with TIDM compared with children with no other coexistent autoimmunity and investigate for possible predictive factors of thyroid function deterioration.

The Covid-19 pandemic resulted in losses of thousands of lives, and many more people were hospitalized in simple or in intensive care unit beds, both globally and locally in Greece. More specifically, in victims of cardiac arrest, both in- and out- of hospital, the increased mortality and high contagiousness of the SARS-CoV-2 virus posed new questions, of both medical and moral nature/ to CPR providers.

The Challenges in the Development of Diabetes Prevention and Care Models in Low-Income Settings.

In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), the burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes is rapidly rising, overpassing the existing burden of communicable diseases. Patients with diabetes living in low-income communities face unique challenges related to lack of awareness, difficulty in accessing health care systems and medications, and consequently failure in achieving optimal diabetes management and preventing complications. Effective diabetes prevention and care models could help reduce the rising burden by standardizing guidelines for prevention and management, improving access to care, engaging community and peers, improving the training of professionals and patients and using the newest technology in the management of the disease.

Novel Insights into the Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Through the Ocular Surface and its Detection in Tears and Conjunctival Secretions: A Review.

SARS-CoV-2 is a highly transmissible virus that spreads mainly via person-to-person contact through respiratory droplets, or through contact with contaminated objects or surfaces from an infected person. At present we are passing through a phase of slow and painful understanding of the origin, epidemiological profile, clinical spectrum, and risk profile of the virus. To the best of our knowledge there is only limited and contradictory evidence concerning SARS-CoV-2 transmission through other routes.
