Background: The use of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for high-risk cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (CSCC) is not yet clearly documented, especially for the head and neck area, due to its rich and cross-branching lymphatic system. We present the first prospective randomized study on the use of SLNB in high-risk CSCCs of the head and neck.
Methods: Seventy-six patients with high-risk CSCCs of the head and neck were randomly divided into two groups: A (n = 38) and B (n = 38).

The number of endovascular aortic repairs (EVARs) has surpassed the number of open surgical repairs of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) worldwide. The available commercial endoprostheses are composed of materials that are stiffer than the native aortic wall. As a consequence, the implantation of stent-graft endoprostheses during EVAR increases aortic rigidity and thus aortic stiffness, resulting in a decrease in abdominal aorta compliance.

Single pulmonary nodules are a difficult to diagnose imagining artifact. Currently novel diagnostic tools such as Radial-EBUS with or not C-ARM flouroscopy, electromagnetic navigation systems, robotic bronchoscopy and cone beam-compuer tomography (CBCT) can assist in the optimal guidance of biopsy equipment. After diagnosis of lung cancer or metastatic disease as pulmonary nodule, then surgery or ablation methods as local treatment can be applied.

Lung cancer is usually diagnosed at advanced stage and systematic therapy is administered. New current diagnostic techniques such as the convex-endobronchial ultrasound, radial endobronchial ultrasound, cone beam ct, electromagnetic navigation and robotic bronchoscopy provide us with a high diagnostic yield. These techniques are minimal invasive and patients with comorbidities such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart failure can be diagnosed with minimal adverse effects.

Non-small cell lung cancer is still diagnosed at a late disease stage and systematic therapy is necessary. Currently we have three main treatment modalities; chemotherapy, targeted with tyrosine kinase inhibitors and immune check point inhibitors. In the recent years and based on new studies we can administer combination of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, or radiotherapy and immunotherapy.

Objectives: Although evidence has shown the association of excessive supraventricular ectopic activity (ESVEA) with future development of atrial fibrillation (AF), this relationship is not yet fully understood. This study examines whether ESVEA can predict the future onset of AF, in patients presenting with cryptogenic stroke.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective cohort of 124 non-AF, consecutive patients, hospitalized for cryptogenic stroke between 2014 and 2015, was retrieved.

Fetal exposure in adverse environmental factors during intrauterine life can lead to various biological adjustments, affecting not only in utero development of the conceptus, but also its later metabolic and endocrine wellbeing. During human gestation, maternal bone turnover increases, as reflected by molecules involved in bone metabolism, such as vitamin D, osteocalcin, sclerostin, sRANKL, and osteoprotegerin; however, recent studies support their emerging role in endocrine functions and glucose homeostasis regulation. Herein, we sought to systematically review current knowledge on the effects of aforementioned maternal bone biomarkers during pregnancy on fetal intrauterine growth and metabolism, neonatal anthropometric measures at birth, as well as on future endocrine and metabolic wellbeing of the offspring.

The surgical management of glaucoma has been revolutionized by the introduction of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). The various MIGS options aim to meaningfully lower intraocular pressure with a better safety profile than traditional glaucoma surgery. The key clinical attributes and the emerging potential of an ab externo MicroShunt (PreserFlo™) are reviewed in the context of published evidence and clinical experience.

Increased maternal food intake is considered a normal pregnancy adjustment. However, the overavailability of nutrients may lead to dysregulated fetal development and increased adiposity, with long-lasting effects on offspring in later life. Several gut-hormone molecules regulate maternal appetite, with both their orexigenic and anorectic effects being in a state of sensitive equilibrium.

Everyday human life has recently been affected worldwide by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Medical students were found to be a vulnerable population, facing many challenges with the temporary suspension of clinical activities, as well as their confrontation with violent changes in their chosen profession. The purpose of the present study is to record and detect possible signs of emotional burden on the psychological profile of northern Greek medical students in the second wave of the European pandemic at the hitherto culmination point.

Introduction: Neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) represents a leading cause of irreversible visual loss affecting the quality of life of millions of elderly patients worldwide. Although the introduction of intravitreal injections with anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (anti-VEGF) agents has revolutionized the management of nAMD, their effectiveness and ultimate success are limited by several therapeutic challenges. Consequently, real-world efficacy appears significantly inferior to that reported by randomized controlled trials.

Introduction: In the last 25 years, topical prostaglandin analogues (PGAs) have emerged to become first line and first choice therapeutic options in the management of glaucoma and ocular hypertension (OHT). Although the short-term efficacy and safety of PGAs has been extensively investigated, less is known about their long term safety and tolerability. This gap in current knowledge is clinically relevant, because treatment-related adverse events and long-term tolerability issues are key determinants of the overall success of long-term therapy and the final outcome of a lifelong, symptomless disease like glaucoma.
