Given the popularity and reach of Instagram among American adolescents and young adults (AYA), the well-known influence of social media on the behaviors of youth, and the rising rates of melanoma in this age group, this study sought to examine and describe the content of a sample of Instagram posts related to skin cancer. At three different times, a search of Instagram was conducted using #skincancer as the hashtag. Descriptive analyses of Instagram characteristics and content was performed.

The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) has decreased in recent years, due in large part to increased screening, particularly through colonoscopy. This study aimed to examine the level of readability of information on colonoscopy preparation written on 100 websites that were found via an internet search. In this cross-sectional study, the content of the first 100 websites in English found via an internet search were analyzed using established readability scales.

With the emergence of technology, comes the possibility, that distracted driving has contributed to a decrease in safe driving practices. Community health professionals must use multiple strategies to address the rising rates of childhood obesity in the United States. One such strategy is to address the underlying causes of childhood obesity, including lack of exercise and the consumption of calorically-dense snack foods. This study examines the presence of candy and snack food in the checkout lines of all retail chain stores in a selected community to determine the presence of these products, the ways in which these products are promoted, and the type of physical environment through which customers navigate during the checkout process.

Unlabelled: Despite an increase in colorectal cancer screening uptake, a substantial minority of individuals over 50 years of age remains unscreened. In the context of an RCT evaluating three educational interventions to increase CRC screening uptake, we examined the relationship of baseline colonoscopy knowledge and both intention to receive a colonoscopy and documented receipt of colonoscopy. Colonoscopy knowledge score, generally high, was positively associated with intention to receive colonoscopy but not with receipt of colonoscopy within 1 year post-randomization.

This study identified barriers to colonoscopy in a high-risk population and examined associations between barriers and both intention to comply with physician recommendation to receive colonoscopy and documented receipt of colonoscopy. Participants, enrollees in a randomized controlled trial assessing the effectiveness of educational interventions to promote colorectal cancer screening, were all 50+ years old and out of compliance with recommended screening guidelines. Direct financial cost of the procedure was not a barrier.
