Freeze-dried formulations of chitosan can be solubilized in platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to form injectable implants that are used as an adjunct treatment during surgical repair of the rotator cuff. The purpose of the current study was to assess chitosan-PRP implant residency, test safety, and assess efficacy over standard-of-care controls in a sheep model of rotator cuff repair. The infraspinatus tendon was transected unilaterally and immediately repaired with suture anchors in 22 skeletally mature ewes.

Trauma narratives may have been influenced by the Me Too movement, with thousands of individuals disclosing sexual violence stories online. Youth, the largest demographic of online users, may prefer the anonymity of the Internet to discuss experiences of sexual assault. Understanding the ways that young women, especially those experiencing mental health difficulties, discuss their experiences is important as they are at higher risk of revictimization and continued poor mental health.

Psychopathy has historically been conceptualized as a mental disorder, but there is growing evidence that it may instead be an alternative, adaptive life history strategy designed by natural selection. Although the etiology of mental disorders is not fully understood, one likely contributor is perturbations affecting neurodevelopment. Nonright-handedness is a sign of such perturbations, and therefore can be used to test these competing models.

Standardization of tumor assessment lays the foundation for validation of grading systems, permits reproducibility of oncologic studies among investigators, and increases confidence in the significance of study results. Currently, there is minimal methodological standardization for assessing tumors in veterinary medicine, with few attempts to validate published protocols and grading schemes. The current article attempts to address these shortcomings by providing standard guidelines for tumor assessment parameters and protocols for evaluating specific tumor types.

mutations have been reported in 15% to 40% of certain human melanoma subtypes, including those histologically similar to canine oral malignant melanomas. Therapeutic response to tyrosine kinase inhibitors has been demonstrated in those human patients. As canine oral malignant melanomas tend to have a poor prognosis despite aggressive surgical removal, evaluation of KIT expression and identification of mutations in canine oral melanocytic neoplasms was performed to determine if there is any indication that tyrosine kinase inhibitor drugs might effectively treat any of these cases.

In psittacine birds, round cell neoplasms that originate from lymphocytes, plasma cells, histiocytes, or mast cells are sporadic and poorly described. The lack of morphological and immunohistochemical diagnostic criteria or grading schemes make specific diagnoses and prognoses challenging. We assessed cases of psittacine birds diagnosed with round cell neoplasia from 3 North American veterinary diagnostic laboratories to describe the diagnostic features of these tumors.

Article Synopsis
  • Ophidiomycosis, caused by a specific fungus, poses challenges for studying its transmission and effects in wild snakes, prompting the need for a reliable experimental model.
  • The study developed a model using subcutaneous injection of fungus in red cornsnakes, leading to significant health issues and high mortality rates among inoculated snakes.
  • Findings suggest possible contact transmission during brumation and provide insights into the disease's pathology, making this model valuable for future research on snake fungal disease.
