Background: Tissue metabolomics analysis, alongside genomics and proteomics, offers crucial insights into the regulatory mechanisms of tumorigenesis. To enhance metabolite detection sensitivity, chemical isotope labeling (CIL) techniques, such as dansylation, have been developed to improve metabolite separation and ionization in mass spectrometry (MS). However, the dissolution of hydrophobic derivatized metabolites in solvents with high acetonitrile content limits the use of liquid chromatography (LC) systems with small-volume reversed-phase (RP) columns.

This study aimed to compare and evaluate the growth inhibition effects of eight previously synthesized compounds, cis-3,4-diaryl-α-methylene-γ-butyrolactams (compounds 1-8), on two human renal carcinoma cell (RCC) lines: CRL-1932 (rapid growth) and HTB-44 (slow growth). MTT assays and flow cytometry were conducted, revealing that compounds 5 and 6 had the potential to induce cell death in the slow-growing RCC cells (HTB-44), while compound 8 demonstrated effectiveness in both RCC lines (HTB-44 and CRL-1932). Additionally, a non-transformed HEK293 cell line and a transgenic zebrafish with a green fluorescent kidney Tg(wt1b:egfp) were used to assess the toxicities of compounds 5, 6, and 8.

The complex relationship between kidney disease and hypertension represents a critical area of research, yet less attention has been devoted to exploring how this connection develops early in life. Various environmental factors during pregnancy and lactation can significantly impact kidney development, potentially leading to kidney programming that results in alterations in both structure and function. This early programming can contribute to adverse long-term kidney outcomes, such as hypertension.

is the causative agent of the venereal disease trichomoniasis which infects men and women globally and is associated with serious outcomes during pregnancy and cancers of the human reproductive tract. Trichomonads parasitize a range of hosts in addition to humans including birds, livestock, and domesticated animals. Recent genetic analysis of trichomonads recovered from columbid birds has provided evidence that these parasite species undergo frequent host-switching, and that a current epoch spillover event from columbids likely gave rise to in humans.

Glioblastoma multiforme, the most common type of highly aggressive primary brain tumor, is influenced by complex molecular signaling pathways, where microRNAs (miRNAs) play a critical regulatory role. Originating from glial cells, glioblastoma cells are affected by the physiological direct current electric field (dcEF) in the central nervous system. While dcEF has been shown to affect glioblastoma migration (electrotaxis), the specific impact on glioblastoma intercellular communication and miRNA expression in glioblastoma cells and their exosomes remains unclear.
