Children referred to pediatric obesity programs are at high risk of binge-eating disorder (BED) symptoms. Our goal was to develop and evaluate the Children's Brief Binge-Eating Questionnaire (CBBEQ) as a rapid screen of BED symptomatology. Seventy patients between the ages of 7 and 18 years (57% females) completed the CBBEQ and underwent the Eating Disorder Assessment for (EDA).

When scholars express concern about trust in science, they often focus on whether the public trusts research findings. This study explores a different dimension of trust and examines whether and how frequently researchers misrepresent their research accomplishments when applying for a faculty position. We collected all of the vitae submitted for faculty positions at a large research university for 1 year and reviewed a 10% sample for accuracy.

Objectives: The present study investigated the effects of 3-dimensional deep search (3DDS) signal processing on the enhancement of consonant perception in bimodal and normal hearing listeners.
Methods: Using an articulation-index gram and 3DDS signal processing, consonant segments that greatly affected performance were identified and intensified with a 6-dB gain. Then consonant recognition was measured unilaterally and bilaterally before and after 3DDS processing both in quiet and noise.

While conducting a set of large-scale multi-site pragmatic clinical trials involving high-impact public health issues such as end-stage renal disease, opioid use, and colorectal cancer, there were substantial changes to both policies and guidelines relevant to the trials. These external changes gave rise to unexpected challenges for the trials, including decisions regarding how to respond to new clinical practice guidelines, increased difficulty in implementing trial interventions, achieving separation between treatment groups, and differential responses across sites. In this article, we describe these challenges and the approaches used to address them.

We studied the extent to which blood pressure ( BP ) change and evolving LVH contribute to the effect that lisinopril, doxazosin, and amlodipine have on HF compared with chlorthalidone. Methods and Results We conducted causal mediation analysis of ALLHAT (Antihypertensive and Lipid-Lowering Treatment to Prevent Heart Attack Trial) data (1994-2002; in-trial follow-up).

Background: Alongside physical impairment, psychosocial health issues may arise after amputation, impacting quality of life. Traditional psychosocial care models provide services in a linear fashion, with limited supports upon discharge. A novel program entitled Amputees Unanimous is a 12-step program provided for amputees by amputees.

Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamin C with antioxidant properties which are known to influence bone quality. This study evaluated whether vitamin C (1000 mg/L) added to drinking water reverses the bone loss in ovariectomized rats. Ninety-day-old female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to either sham ( = 14) or ovariecotmized groups ( = 28).

Purpose: The objective of this study was to determine the negative predictive value (NPV) of positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) for the clinically N0 neck on the basis of neck dissection.
Methods: Participants with newly diagnosed, first-time, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and at least one clinically N0 neck side for which dissection was planned were included. A total of 287 participants were prospectively enrolled from 23 American College of Radiology Imaging Network-qualified institutions.
Intractable epilepsy may have a more severe effect on children in comparison to adults because the motor, sensorial, and cognitive functions of children are still undergoing development. For this same reason, however, children maintain a greater potential for recovery from intractable epilepsy because of the remaining cerebral plasticity. Thus, after 2 unsuccessful antiepileptic medications, surgical intervention is recommended.

Full-thickness skin wounds are common accidents. Although healing can be achieved by treatments like autologous skin grafts, donor site morbidity is hardly evitable. In this article, we provide compelling evidence demonstrating that artificial dermal template (ADT)-treated wound healing is achieved by regrowth of skin epidermis as well as adnexa without skin grafts by use of rodent models.

Chronic wounds complicated by diabetes are a significant clinical issue, and their occurrence is expected to continue to rise due to an increased prevalence of diabetes mellitus, especially type 2 diabetes. Diabetic wounds frequently lead to nonhealing ulcers, and often eventually result in limb amputation due to the high risk of infection of the chronic wound. Here, we present a tissue-engineered treatment that combines a novel electrochemically deposited collagen wound matrix and human adipose-derived stem cells.

Adolescents and young adults are disproportionately affected by sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This study examined the association of GYT: Get Yourself Tested (GYT), a sexual health social marketing campaign, with several sexual health behaviors on a nationally representative sample of high school (HS) and college students ( n = 2,329) recruited through an online panel survey. Behaviors examined were STD testing, HIV testing, and whether students had communication with health care providers and their romantic partners about STDs and STD testing.

The ability to rapidly complete a jump landing has received little attention in the literature despite the need for rapid performance in a number of sports. As such, our purpose was to investigate differences between groups of individuals who land quickly (FAST) and slowly (SLOW) relative to peak vertical ground reaction forces (vGRFs), loading rates, rates of vGRF attenuation, contributions to lower extremity mechanical energy absorption at the involved joints, and the onsets of preparatory joint flexion/dorsiflexion. Twenty-four healthy adults (26.

Background: Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) affects more than one out of 1,000 people every year, of which 50 % develop post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS). Studies indicated that patients with DVT have deteriorated arterial wall function, while less is known about the association with PTS. We therefore investigated this relationship further.

Cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Vascular endothelial dysfunction, an important contributor in the development of CVD, improves with exercise training in patients with CVD. However, the role of regular exercise to improve vascular function in cancer survivors remains equivocal.

Objective: Text-messaging interventions positively affect health behaviors, but their use on college campuses has been limited. Text messaging serves as a relatively affordable way to communicate with large audiences and is one of the preferred modes of communication for young adults. This study examined the feasibility and acceptability of a campus-wide, health text-messaging program.

Rationale: Physical inactivity among patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is associated with exacerbations requiring high-cost health care utilization including urgent, emergent, and hospital care.
Objectives: To examine the effectiveness of a behavioral lifestyle physical activity intervention combined with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease self-management education to prevent high-cost health care utilization.
Methods: This was an analysis of secondary outcomes of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Self-Management Activation Research Trial, a two-arm randomized trial of stable adult outpatients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease recruited from primary care and pulmonary clinics.

Epidemiological studies have explored whether TBI poses a risk for dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases associated with aging. We will discuss the influence of TBI and resulting medical comorbidities such as endocrine, sleep, and inflammatory disturbances on age-related gray and white matter changes and cognitive decline.
