Context: As a member of a large family of proteins that together regulate various aspects of cell growth and development, the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a validated target for the development of new drugs. Herein, we compiled a library of 62 compounds from the PubChem database with similar pharmacophores as osimertinib, which to our knowledge represents the only drug capable of overcoming EGFR-T790M-mutated NSCLC until date. Subsequently, we launched a docking-based virtual screening campaign against the EGFR kinase with the compiled chemical entities.

Background And Objective: The impact of allergic rhinitis (AR), a common comorbidity in asthma, on global quality of life (QoL) using generic QoL questionnaires has not been extensively evaluated.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional population-based study among adults ≥18 years old. Generic QoL was measured using the World Health Organization (WHO) questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF), and asthma control was assessed using the Asthma Control Test.

Background: Autonomic dysfunction in Parkinson's disease (PD) includes cardiovascular dysregulations which may manifest as an increased risk of atrial fibrillation (AF). However, data on the impact of PD in AF patients is lacking. Our study aimed to investigate the differences in in-hospital mortality of patients admitted for AF with underlying PD versus those without PD.

Background: The mpox (monkeypox) disease is a re-emerging viral zoonosis of international concern that is endemic in parts of Africa. The mpox virus (MPXV), which was hitherto largely limited to some Central and West African countries, was declared a public health emergency of international concern by the WHO on July 23, 2022 following the rapid spread of the virus to non-endemic countries. Globally, as of March 16, 2023, the WHO had reported 86,496 laboratory-confirmed cases of mpox and 111 deaths in 110 countries.

Background: The microtubule-associated protein tau ( ) gene is critical because of its putative role in the causal pathway of neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson's disease (PD). However, there is a lack of clarity regarding the link between the main H1 haplotype and risk of PD. Inconsistencies in reported association may be driven by genetic variability in the populations studied to date.

Background: Plastics have conveyed great benefits to humanity and made possible some of the most significant advances of modern civilization in fields as diverse as medicine, electronics, aerospace, construction, food packaging, and sports. It is now clear, however, that plastics are also responsible for significant harms to human health, the economy, and the earth's environment. These harms occur at every stage of the plastic life cycle, from extraction of the coal, oil, and gas that are its main feedstocks through to ultimate disposal into the environment.

Background The effect of geriatric events (GEs) on outcomes of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) admissions is poorly understood. We evaluated the prevalence and impact of GEs on clinical outcomes and resource utilization of older patients admitted with ACS. Methods Using the 2018 National (Nationwide) Inpatient Sample, we analyzed all elective hospitalizations for ACS in older adults (age ≥ 65 years) and a younger reference group (age 55-64).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms. Epidemiological reports showed a significant association between environmental toxicants-induced gut dysbiosis and PD. Neuroinflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction and decreased cerebral blood flow are hallmarks of PD.

As of 2018, cryptococcal antigen (CrAg) screening in patients with advanced human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease (AHD) was not routinely implemented in Nigeria despite being recommended in the national HIV treatment guidelines. Our aim was to determine the prevalence and risk factors for asymptomatic cryptococcal antigenemia in adult people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Nigeria to advocate for the implementation of routine CrAg screening. A descriptive cross-sectional study and CrAg screening of consecutive adult PLHIV with CD4 counts ≤200 cells/μL was conducted from April 2018 to April 2019 at HIV clinics in eleven tertiary hospitals spread across Nigeria's six geopolitical regions.

Background: Awake craniotomy (AC) is a common neurosurgical procedure for the resection of lesions in eloquent brain areas, which has the advantage of avoiding general anesthesia to reduce associated complications and costs. A significant resource limitation in low- and middle-income countries constrains the usage of AC.
Objective: To review the published literature on AC in African countries, identify challenges, and propose pragmatic solutions by practicing neurosurgeons in Africa.

Objectives: The study aimed to determine the prevalence of PAD in children with T1DM and to correlate PAD with clinical characteristics in children with T1DM.
Methods: A comparative cross-sectional study was conducted involving 90 subjects (forty-five with T1DM and 45 apparently healthy comparative subjects that were matched for age and gender). Systolic blood pressure was measured in all limbs using the pocket Doppler machine (Norton Doppler scan machine).

Child mortality is the lowest it has ever been, but the burden of death in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is still prevalent, and the numbers average above the global mean. Breastfeeding contributes to the reduction of child mortality by improving chance of survival beyond childhood. Therefore, it is essential to examine how evidence-based breastfeeding interventions are being maintained in resource-constrained settings.

Background and objective The global health burden of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) stems from its increasing incidence over the years. Comprehensive studies on the topic hypothesize that IBD plays a more dominant in the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). In light of this, we conducted this study with the aim of assessing the prevalence and risk factors of developing NASH in patients who have had a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).

Methods: This was a national cross-sectional study involving mothers of hospitalised babies from eleven Nigerian tertiary hospitals.
