Background: Long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs), including hormonal implants and intrauterine devices, are highly effective pregnancy prevention methods. Aside its advantages over other hormonal methods, LARCs are cost-effective, easy to maintain, and have a low risk of non-compliance-related method failure. Besides, LARCs are also relatively safe for all sexually active women in the postpartum or post-abortion period.

Background: Over 80,000 pregnant women died in Nigeria due to pregnancy-related complications in 2020. Evidence shows that if appropriately conducted, caesarean section (CS) reduces the odds of maternal death. In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO), in a statement, proposed an optimal national prevalence of CS and recommended the use of Robson classification for classifying and determining intra-facility CS rates.

Oral antidiabetic agents including the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) agonists are available for the clinical management of diabetes mellitus (DM) but most are characterized by many adverse effects. In this study, we explore the antidiabetic properties of phytoconstituents from Trigonellafeonumgraecum (Fabaceae) as potential agonist of PPARγ; using in silico molecular docking, molecular mechanics generalized surface area (MM/GBSA)free binding energy prediction, Pharmacophore modeling experiment, and Pharmacokinetic/ toxicity analysis. One hundred and forty (140) compounds derived from Trigonellafeonumgraecum were screened by molecular docking against protein target PDB 3VI8.

Women who had never undergone cervical screening (CS) or who have infrequent CS are at increased risk of having cervical epithelial cell abnormalities (CECA) that may lead to cervical cancer (CCa). Our study determined the pattern and factors that predict the occurrence of CECA among unscreened and under-screened women in Lagos, Nigeria. This was an analytical cross-sectional study among 256 consenting sexually active women between 21 and 65 years who attended a community CS programme in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria, in June 2019.

Objective: Proliferative verrucous leukoplakia (PVL) is a rare form of oral leukoplakia with a relatively high transformation rate resulting in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Molecular analysis of PVL at the genome level is limited and has only identified molecular similarities between PVL and OSCC. However, the clinical profile of PVL suggests that molecular differences may be more important.

Orofacial clefts (OFCs) are the most common craniofacial birth defects and are often categorized into two etiologically distinct groups: cleft lip with or without cleft palate (CL/P) and isolated cleft palate (CP). CP is highly heritable, but there are still relatively few established genetic risk factors associated with its occurrence compared to CL/P. Historically, CP has been studied as a single phenotype despite manifesting across a spectrum of defects involving the hard and/or soft palate.

Introduction: The tropical environment is endemic with malaria and non-malarial infections which are responsible for the high morbidity and mortality in these low- and middle-income countries. In particular, acute malarial infection can cause significant multi-organ dysfunction, including kidney involvement. Early detection of kidney dysfunction will help to improve the quality of care and reduce associated morbidity and mortality.
