Glioblastoma (GBM) presents significant challenges due to its invasive nature and genetic heterogeneity. In this study, we investigated the impact of Small VCP/P97-Interacting Protein (SVIP) on GBM progression. Our results revealed elevated expression of Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein 2 (IGFBP-2) and STIP1 homology and U-box containing protein 1 (STUB1), coupled with reduced SVIP levels in GBM samples.

Cardiac hypertrophy is the most prevalent compensatory heart disease that ultimately leads to spontaneous heart failure. Mounting evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRs) and endogenous hydrogen sulfide (HS) play a crucial role in the regulation of cardiac hypertrophy. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether inhibition of miR-27a could protect against cardiac hypertrophy by modulating HS signaling.

Phosphocreatine (PCr) has been shown to have a cardio-protective effect during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, little is known about its impact on atherosclerosis. In this study, we first evaluated the pharmacological effects of PCr on antioxidative defenses and mitochondrial protection against hydrogen peroxide (HO) induced human umbilical vascular endothelial cells (HUVECs) damage.

Cholesterol serves a vital role in the occurrence and development of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). Furthermore, cholesterol synthesis is regulated by sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2 (SREBP2), and certain glucose transporters (GLUTs) and Ras-related protein Rab11 (Rab11) small GTPase family members (Rab11s) may contribute to the process. The Cancer Genome Atlas was used to analyze the relationship between prognosis and GLUT gene expressions.

Background: Evidence has been shown that long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play an important role in the development of cervical cancer. Recently, lncRNA DARS-AS1 was reported to be dysregulated in several cancer types; however, the role of DARS-AS1 in cervical cancer remains unclear.
Methods: Flow cytometry and transwell invasion assays were performed to determine the apoptosis and invasion in cervical cancer cells.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease in which pigment is lost in patches of the skin. CD4 T cells are implicated in vitiligo while regulatory T cells (Tregs) could ameliorate vitiligo. Rapamycin together with autoantigen have been shown to induce immunological tolerance and promote Tregs in multiple autoimmune diseases.

Dysfunction of histone deacetylase 10 (HDAC10) has been suggested in the carcinogenesis of cervical cancer (CC). However, its association with microRNAs (miRNAs) in CC remains exclusive. Hence, this study aims to probe the role of HDAC10 in regulating CC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion and its correlation with the screened-out miRNA target.

Background: Coronary artery involvement is a severe but uncommon manifestation of polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), so clinicians have little knowledge of it. Our aim was to investigate the clinical characteristics, risk factors and outcomes of patients with PAN complicated with coronary artery lesions.
Methods: Data from 145 patients with PAN who were admitted to Peking Union Medical College Hospital from January 2000 to September 2019 were retrospectively collected.

Vestibular aqueduct is a precise structure embedded in the temporal bone and plays a key role in the physiological function of inner ear by maintaining the endolymphatic circulation and buffering the impact from intracranial pressure. Although the alterations on the morphology or volume of vestibular aqueduct result in variety of diseases, the approaches of evaluating the condition of vestibular aqueduct are still unsatisfing because the pathological sections utilized for the 3D construction model most likely undergoes morphological changes. In this study, the vestibular aqueduct images obtained by CT scanning were processed by finite element method to construct the 3D model.

Background: Hyperthermia upregulates DNAJA4, a member of heat shock proteins (HSPs) 40 family, in human keratinocytes and HPV-infected tissue. DNAJA4 deficiency enhances growth arrest induced by hyperthermia. Clusterin (CLU) and phosphorylated ERK (p-ERK) play a role in regulating cell proliferation and apoptosis, under environmental stress.

Vitiligo is a chronic, autoimmune destruction of melanocytes, resulting in progressively expanding depigmented skin patches. Severity of the disorder, which affects approximately 1% of humans, may be mitigated using topical corticosteroids combined with phototherapy; along with other clinical strategies; however, no definitive cures are currently available. Here, the capacity of apigenin, a plant-derived aglycone, to inhibit oxidative stress-mediated melanocyte depletion in vitro using a PIG3V vitiligo perilesional melanocyte cell model is evaluated.

This study aimed to explore the effect of lidocaine on the growth of cervical cancer cells (HeLa) and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and flow cytometry (FCM) were used to detect the cell viability and apoptosis of cervical cancer cells after lidocaine treatment. Lidocaine inhibited cell viability and promoted apoptosis in HeLa cells.

BACKGROUND Adiponectin receptor-1 (AdipoR1) has been reported to be associated with the risk of obesity-associated malignancies, including epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC). The aim of this study was to determine if AdipoR1 could serve as a prognosis indicator for patients with EOC. MATERIAL AND METHODS In this study, expression of AdipoR1 in 73 EOC patients consecutively admitted to our hospital was detected by immunohistochemical staining.

Several studies have demonstrated that increased apoptosis plays an essential role in neurodegenerative disorders. It has been demonstrated that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces apoptosis largely through the production of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inflammatory mediators. In this study, we investigated the potential protective mechanisms of naringin (Nar), a pummelo peel extract, on LPS-induced PC12 cell apoptosis.

MicroRNAs can affect behaviors of tumor cells by modulating the expression of the target genes that involve tumor growth, invasiveness, and death. The goal of this research is to examine the effects of miR-15a on the proliferation and invasiveness of malignant melanoma cells in vitro, as well as the therapeutic effect of miR-15a in a mouse melanoma model. miR-15a displayed inhibitory effects on proliferation and invasiveness of several malignant melanoma cell lines.
