Fetoscopy laser photocoagulation is a widely adopted procedure for treating Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS). The procedure involves photocoagulation pathological anastomoses to restore a physiological blood exchange among twins. The procedure is particularly challenging, from the surgeon's side, due to the limited field of view, poor manoeuvrability of the fetoscope, poor visibility due to amniotic fluid turbidity, and variability in illumination.

The novel dinuclear complex related to the [FeFe]-hydrogenases active site, [Fe(μ-pdt)(κ-dmpe)(CO)] (), is highly reactive toward chlorinated compounds CHCl ( = 1, 2) affording selectively terminal or bridging chloro diiron isomers through a C-Cl bond activation. DFT calculations suggest a cooperative mechanism involving a formal concerted regioselective chloronium transfer depending on the unrotated or rotated conformation of two isomers of .

Background: The French region of Brittany presents one of the highest cystic fibrosis (CF)-causing allele frequency in Europe. Here, we tested two hypotheses: i) CF-causing allele carriers arrived by sea in the middle of the 1st millennium AD, and ii) a selective advantage for healthy carriers explains this high rate.
Methods: From the census of cystic fibrosis patients, frequency maps of the most widespread alleles were established.

Positron emission tomography (PET) imaging of Aβ plaques, is recognized as a tool for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. As a contribution to the development of new strategies for early diagnosis of the disease, using PET medical imaging technique, a new copper complex, the [Cu(TE1PA-ONO)] was synthesized in ten steps. The key step of our strategy is the coupling of a monopicolinate-N-alkylated cyclam-based ligand with a moiety capable of recognizing Aβ plaques via a successful and challenging Buchwald-Hartwig coupling reaction.

Binaural reproduction aims at recreating a realistic sound scene at the ears of the listener using headphones. Unfortunately, externalization for frontal and rear sources is often poor (virtual sources are perceived inside the head, instead of outside the head). Nevertheless, previous studies have shown that large head-tracked movements could substantially improve externalization and that this improvement persisted once the subject had stopped moving his/her head.

Urbanization is one of the main threats to biodiversity. However, some urban green spaces could act as refuges for urban fauna if the composition of the flora were less horticultural and if a less intensive management strategy is adopted. Among the taxa, butterflies are experiencing a strong decline from European to regional scales.

We investigate little-appreciated features of the hierarchical core-shell (CS) models of the electrical, mechanical, and electromechanical interactions between the cell membrane (CM) and nuclear envelope (NE). We first consider a simple model of an individual cell based on a coupled resistor-capacitor (Schwan model (SM)) network and show that the CM, when exposed to ac electric fields, acts as a low pass filter while the NE acts as a wide and asymmetric bandpass filter. We provide a simplified calculation for characteristic time associated with the capacitive charging of the NE and parameterize its range of behavior.

Mandibular retrognathia (C2Rm) is one of the most common oral pathologies. Acquiring a better understanding of the points of impact of C2Rm on the entire skull is of major interest in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of this dysmorphism, but also permits us to contribute to the debate on the changes undergone by the shape of the skull during human evolution. However, conventional methods have some limits in meeting these challenges, insofar as they require defining in advance the structures to be studied, and identifying them using landmarks.

Ether lipids are compounds present in many living organisms including humans that feature an ether bond linkage at the -1 position of the glycerol. This class of lipids features singular structural roles and biological functions. Alkyl ether lipids and alkenyl ether lipids (also identified as plasmalogens) correspond to the two sub-classes of naturally occurring ether lipids.

Aims: The aims of this article are to provide an overview of the technique of phalloplasty by radial forearm free flap in the context of female-to-male gender reassignment surgery, with a specific focus on surgical technical details and the prevention of postoperative complications.
Methods: In the light of our 30 years of experience in caring for female-to-male transgender individuals and conducting a critical review of the literature, we exhaustively present our technique of radial forearm free flap phalloplasty in female-to-male gender reassignment surgery.
Results: The technique of radial forearm free flap phalloplasty, utilizing a one-stage approach for neourethral and neophallus construction based on the "tube within a tube" principle, not only achieves an aesthetically pleasing appearance of the neophallus resembling a normal penis with tactile and erogenous sensitivities but also yields a functional neourethra and satisfactory penile rigidity using implants for standing voiding and sexual intercourse.

Model predictive control (MPC) is an outstanding control method which can achieve superior dynamic response, nonlinear control and multi-objective collaborative control. However, because of unfixed switching frequency, the harmonic spectrum of the output current is dispersed, which would make it difficult to design the output filter. In this work, a double voltage vector model predictive control (DVV-MPC) algorithm for grid-connected cascade H-bridge (CHB) multilevel inverter is presented.

Aim: The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive description of the peritoneal flap technique in male-to-female (MtF) gender affirmation surgery, particularly in cases of insufficient depth after penile inversion vaginoplasty.
Results: Our short-term results reveal that the peritoneal flap vaginoplasty, adapted from the Davydov procedure, has shown significant potential for improving functional and aesthetic outcomes, including the creation of a self-lubricating neovagina. However, the complexity of the procedure requires advanced surgical expertise and appropriate postoperative care.

Long-term alterations of pulmonary function (mainly decreased airway conductance and capacity of the lungs to diffuse carbon monoxide (DLCO)) have been described after hyperbaric exposures. However, whether these alterations convey a higher risk for divers' safety has never been investigated before. The purpose of the present pilot study was to assess whether decreased DLCO is associated with modifications of the physiological response to diving.

We synthesized, thanks to the regiospecific -functionalization using an orthoamide intermediate, two 1,4,7-triazacyclononane derivatives containing an acetate arm and either a methylpyridine or a picolinic acid group, respectively, H and H, as new Ga chelators for potential use in nuclear medicine. The corresponding Ga complexes were synthesized and structurally characterized in solution by H and C NMR. The [Ga()] complex appears to exist in solution as two diasteroisomeric pairs of enantiomers, as confirmed by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, while for [Ga()], a single species is present in solution.
