Linezolid-induced lactic acidosis is a rare, but life-threatening complication of a commonly used drug. Patients present with persistent lactic acidosis, hypoglycaemia, high central venous oxygen saturation and shock. Linezolid causes mitochondrial toxicity due to impaired oxidative phosphorylation.

We present a cluster of patients with osteomalacic myopathy in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe that the home confinement of these children may have contributed to the resurgence of this condition. This deficiency is eminently reversible.

Although intracranial aneurysms are rare in the paediatric population, the proportion of those involving posterior circulation is higher than that of adults (approximately 25% vs. 8%, respectively). Moreover, posterior circulation aneurysms in kids tend to be larger in size, many of them being giant dissecting types, and treatment of them is often challenging.

Pleuropulmonary blastoma masquerading as pneumothorax in a patient with a ventricular septal defect.

Asian Cardiovasc Thorac Ann

October 2022

Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, 28730All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Ansari Nagar, New Delhi, India.

Pleuropulmonary blastoma is a rare pediatric primary lung tumor. We report a case of a child with Down syndrome and a large ventricular septal defect presenting with pleuropulmonary blastoma initially misdiagnosed as spontaneous pneumothorax. Following tube thoracostomy drainage of the pneumothorax, the child underwent surgical closure of the ventricular septal defect.

A middle-aged male with hypertension and dyslipidaemia presented with hoarseness of voice due to a left vocal palsy. The chest radiograph revealed a saccular opacity silhouetting the left border of the aortic knuckle, suggestive of a large aortic arch aneurysm. Routine investigations, such as a chest radiograph do occasionally identify potentially fatal pathology, even when perhaps not strictly indicated; uncommon presentations do occur!

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most prevalent cause of abnormal vaginal discharge among pre-menopausal women and associated with adversities of sexual and reproductive health. The present study aimed to identify potential epidemiological and behavioural risk factors and clinical predictors of BV among women in Delhi, India. A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess 283 non-pregnant women aged 18-45 years for BV using Nugent's scoring criteria.

Introduction: Long-term levodopa therapy for Parkinson's disease (PD) can cause levodopa induced dyskinesia (LID). Genetic predisposition has a significant role to play in inter-individual heterogeneity in the clinical manifestation of LID. Despite accumulating evidence for the role of COMT gene polymorphism (rs4680) as a genetic basis for LID, to date results have been inconsistent.

Purpose: To evaluate the remodeling of visceral arteries post-endovascular repair (TEVAR) of type B aortic dissection and to investigate interval change in renal volume and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) vis-a-vis baseline visceral artery morphology.

Materials And Methods: All patients of type B aortic dissection who underwent TEVAR with a baseline and follow-up CT during the study period were included. Baseline morphology of visceral arteries (celiac, superior, and inferior mesenteric artery and bilateral renal artery) were classified into 7 patterns depending upon the origin of the artery (from true/false lumen) and the extension of dissection flap, while occluded vessels were categorized as pattern 8.

-deficient undifferentiated uterine sarcoma is a recently described molecularly defined entity among the subset of aggressive undifferentiated uterine tumors. Mutation in the gene is a key driver alteration, as also seen in small cell carcinoma of ovary, hypercalcemic type (SCCOHT) and thoracic undifferentiated carcinoma. Limited number of cases of SMARCA4-deficient undifferentiated uterine sarcoma has been reported in literature.

We report a case of a 35-year-old man with a dilated ascending aorta and a unique meandering retrosternal course of the right coronary artery (RCA) resulting in a partially empty right atrioventricular groove. The aortic root showed an exaggerated clockwise rotation, resulting in an anteriorly directed RCA ostium and the RCA, instead of entering the right atrioventricular groove, traversed caudally in the subepicardial space over the anterior surface of the right ventricle directly posterior to the sternum.

Vascular anomalies: nomenclature, classification, and imaging algorithms.

Acta Radiol

February 2023

Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Burns Surgery, Department of Radiodiagnosis and Interventional Radiology, 28730All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India.

There is a lot of ambiguity in the usage of correct terminology in the description of vascular malformations and tumors. Hemangioma and arteriovenous malformation (AVM) are the most commonly used terms and are the mostly incorrectly used as well! The aim of this review article was to lay out the correct nomenclature and describe the correct usage for the physicians and radiologists involved in diagnosing and managing these lesions. We describe the various classification systems which have been devised to define the multiple entities included under vascular anomalies.

Fungal infections of the orbit are infrequent. They typically affect immunocompromised individuals but, in some instances, can also affect an immunocompetent person. They mimic much orbital pathology clinically.

Stimuli responsive polymer based on Polyaspartic acid, 2-Acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid and sodium alginate (NaAlg) were synthesized using two cross-linkers Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) and TMPTA (Trimethylolpropane triacrylate). The polymers were standardized and optimized to obtain a polymer with maximum swelling in distilled water, saline, glucose and solutions of varying pH. The synthesized polymer swelled well in distilled water, glucose solution and acidic- alkaline medium.

The first part of this review article emphasized correct nomenclature, classification systems, and imaging algorithm of vascular anomalies. The second part of the review discusses the individual entities, highlighting the characteristic clinico-radiological features of the commonly encountered ones. A step-wise algorithmic approach is also proposed for the evaluation of a suspected case of vascular anomaly.

Disseminated cysticercosis is defined by the presence of multiple vesicular cystic lesions in the brain with cysts demonstrable in at least two other body parts. The exact course of disseminated cysticercosis is not known and the individual cysts either become inflamed or calcify. A patient's quality of life is often poor and disseminated cysticercosis treatment is far from satisfactory.

In this prospective randomized controlled trial, we compared the standard del Nido cardioplegia solution (SDN) with the modified del Nido cardioplegia solution (MDN) in which the base solution was the plain Ringer solution. A total of 80 patients aged < 12 years undergoing intracardiac repair of Tetralogy of Fallot were randomized into SDN (n = 39) or MDN (n = 41) groups. The primary outcome was a change in cardiac index (CI).

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important regulatory role and serve as biomarkers in various human cancers. However, their role in the prognosis and predicting response to therapy in Indian lung cancer patients is not fully explored. We collected surgically resected tumors and paired adjacent normal lung tissues from 29 early-stage and tissue biopsies from 103 locally advanced and metastatic lung cancer patients in this prospective study.
