Three-dimensional rotational angiography improves mechanical thrombectomy recanalization rate for acute ischaemic stroke due to middle cerebral artery M2 segment occlusions.

Background: Occlusions of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) M2 segments can be difficult to address with mechanical thrombectomy (MTB) using standard projections and this can affect the final recanalization. Three-dimensional rotational angiography (3D-RA) allows to obtain a 3D model of cerebral vessels in a few seconds and to determine the best two-dimensional (2D) projections to be selected to evaluate and treat cerebrovascular diseases, such as aneurysms or vascular malformations. We aimed to determine if 3D-RA could be applied also in MTB.

What a Single Electroencephalographic (EEG) Channel Can Tell us About Alzheimer's Disease Patients With Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Abnormalities in cortical sources of resting-state eyes closed electroencephalographic (rsEEG) rhythms recorded by hospital settings (10-20 montage) with 19 scalp electrodes characterized Alzheimer's disease (AD) from preclinical to dementia stages. An intriguing rsEEG application is the monitoring and evaluation of AD progression in large populations with few electrodes in low-cost devices. Here we evaluated whether the above-mentioned abnormalities can be observed from fewer scalp electrodes in patients with mild cognitive impairment due to AD (ADMCI).

Friendship in Later Life: Thirty Years of Progress and Inequalities.

Studies examining the impact of social change on individual development and aging postulate the growing importance of flexible relationships, such as friendship. Although friendship is well known as a factor of well-being in later life, the prevalence of friendship in older adult networks and its unequal distribution has been examined only in few studies. Through secondary data analysis of two cross-sectional surveys carried out in Switzerland in 1979 and 2011, respectively, the increasing presence of close friends was confirmed.

The Challenges of Big Data for Research Ethics Committees: A Qualitative Swiss Study.

Big data trends in health research challenge the oversight mechanism of the Research Ethics Committees (RECs). The traditional standards of research quality and the mandate of RECs illuminate deficits in facing the computational complexity, methodological novelty, and limited auditability of these approaches. To better understand the challenges facing RECs, we explored the perspectives and attitudes of the members of the seven Swiss Cantonal RECs via semi-structured qualitative interviews.

Development and Cross-National Validation of a French Version of the Jefferson Scale of Empathy for Students.

Empathy is a multifaceted personal ability combining emotional and cognitive features modulated by cultural specificities. It is widely recognized as a key clinical competence that should be valued during professional training. The Jefferson Scale of Empathy for medical students (JSE-S) has been developed for this purpose and validated in several languages, but not in French.

Relationship Between Mindfulness, Psychopathological Symptoms, and Academic Performance in University Students.

It has been shown that a mindfulness construct involving five component skills (observing, describing, acting with awareness, nonjudging of inner experience, and nonreactivity to inner experience) is related to well-being and lessens depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms. This study investigates the relationship between mindfulness, academic performance, and psychopathological symptoms in a sample of Swiss university students during preparation for examinations. A total sample of 150 university students from the psychology department at the University of Geneva were invited to report their mindfulness skills and academic performance, as well as anxiety, depression, and stress symptoms, through self-report measures.
