Non-invasive urine biomarkers are an active area of investigation to support LN diagnosis and management.

Objective: To investigate the role of urinary galectin-3 binding protein (u-Gal-3BP) as a candidate biomarker of renal disease in biopsy proven LN.

Upregulation of PKN1 as a Prognosis Biomarker for Endometrial Cancer.

Cancer Control

May 2022

Department of Women's and Children's Health, Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Karolinska University Hospital, Solna, 27106Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden.

Background: Several markers of survival among endometrial cancer (EC) patients have been proposed, namely, the oncoprotein stathmin, RAF kinase inhibitor (RKIP), Cyclin A, GATA-binding protein 3 (GATA3), and growth and differentiation factor-15 (GDF-15). Their elevated expression correlated significantly with a high stage, serous papillary/clear cell subtypes, and aneuploidy. In a previous study, we reported the elevated expression of the serine/threonine protein kinase N1 (PKN1) in cancerous cells.

Calprotectin is one of the most abundant proteins of neutrophil granulocytes. It is released upon neutrophil activation and is considered a sensitive and clinically useful marker for neutrophil-mediated inflammation, including bacterial infections. However, early kinetics of calprotectin activation following inflammatory activation has hitherto been unknown.

Earlier diagnosis and longer working careers is resulting in more individuals being identified as having Mild Cognitive Impairment or Early Onset Dementia (MCI/EOD) when they are still in the workforce. While there is growing interest in the dementia research community and beyond to develop technologies to support people with dementia, the use of technology for and by people with MCI/EOD in the workplace has had very little attention. This paper presents a two-part study involving interviews and participatory sessions to begin to understand the workplace experiences and the role of technology among people living with MCI/EOD.

Important aspects of home care service: An interview study of persons with dementia.

Dementia (London)

July 2021

School of Health, Care, and Social Welfare, Mälardalen University, Sweden; School of Education, Health and Social Studies, Dalarna University, Sweden; Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Division of Nursing, Karolinska Institute, Sweden.

Background And Aim: Because of the policy of 'ageing in place' and a decreasing number of beds in residential settings, more persons with dementia live at home with support from home care services. However, previous studies have revealed more unmet needs and a lower quality of life in this group than in other groups. Because few qualitative studies are performed in which persons with dementia have the opportunity to tell their own stories and describe what they find important, this study aimed to interview persons with dementia and describe their views on the important aspects of receiving home care service.

Changes in EEG when moving from an eyes-closed to an eyes-open resting condition result from bottom-up sensory processing and have been referred to as activation. In children, activation is characterized by a global reduction in alpha, frontally present reductions for delta and theta, and a frontal increase for beta. The present study aimed to replicate frontal EEG activation effects using single-channel, dry-sensor EEG, and to extend current understanding by examining developmental change in children.
