This pilot study examined the associations among functional connectivity in the salience, central executive, and default mode networks, and neurocognition in pediatric brain tumor survivors and healthy children. Thirteen pediatric brain tumor survivors (9 boys, M = 12.76 years) and 10 healthy children (6 boys, M = 12.

No-shows can negatively affect patient care. Efforts to predict high-risk patients are needed. Previously, our epilepsy clinic identified patients with 2 or more no-shows or late cancelations in the past 18 months as being at high risk for no-shows.

Desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) is an aggressive pediatric round cell sarcoma containing a characteristic gene fusion. In the absence of genetic data, distinguishing DSRCT from other small round cell tumors of childhood can be problematic due to overlapping histologic and immunohistochemical features. We studied the utility of immunohistochemistry with antibodies targeting both the amino-terminal and carboxy-terminal regions of the Wilms tumor-1 (WT1) protein in differentiating these groups of tumors.

Background And Purpose: Mutations in have classically been associated with benign familial neonatal and infantile seizures and more recently identified in patients with neurodevelopmental disorders and abnormal electroencephalogram (EEG) findings. We present 4 affected patients from a family with a pathogenic mutation in with a unique constellation of clinical findings.
Methods: A family of 3 affected siblings and mother sharing a pathogenic variant are described, including clinical history, genetic results, and EEG and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings.

Direct oral factor Xa inhibitors (DXIs) are approved for use in adult patients with non-valvular heart disease for stroke prevention, and the treatment/prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Recent pediatric clinical trials have demonstrated safety and efficacy of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in the treatment of VTE. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the use of andexanet alfa and prothrombin complex concentrates (PCC) for anticoagulation reversal of DXIs in the pediatric population.

Reliable prediction of severe acute kidney injury (AKI) and related poor outcomes has the potential to optimize treatment. The purpose of this study was to modify the renal angina index in pediatric cardiac surgery to predict severe AKI and related poor outcomes. We performed a multicenter retrospective study with the population divided into a derivation and validation cohort to assess the performance of a modified renal angina index assessed at 8 h after cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) admission to predict a complex outcome of severe day 3 AKI or related poor outcomes (ventilation duration >7 days, CICU length of stay >14 days, and mortality).

To determine associations between anticoagulation practices and bleeding and thrombosis during pediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), we performed a secondary analysis of prospectively collected data which included 481 children (<19 years), between January 2012 and September 2014. The primary outcome was bleeding or thrombotic events. Bleeding events included a blood product transfusion >80 ml/kg on any day, pulmonary hemorrhage, or intracranial bleeding, Thrombotic events included pulmonary emboli, intracranial clot, limb ischemia, cardiac clot, and arterial cannula or entire circuit change.

This is a case report of a child with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) complicated by an acute ischemic stroke with right M1 occlusion and large penumbra who underwent thrombectomy with TICI 3 recanalization. There were no complications and the patient had improvement in the pediatric NIHSS from 16 to 3 in the subsequent days. This is the first known report of successful mechanical thrombectomy performed in a pediatric patient with MIS-C associated with COVID-19.

The majority of interventions were within scope for nurse coach practice, and problem, category, and target terms showed differential nurse coach practice applicability across interventions. The Omaha System terminology was aligned with nurse coach practice in that both represent and employ comprehensive and holistic perspectives.

Intraplacental hepatic nodules are extremely rare and range from incidentally identified microscopic nodules to large mass-forming lesions. We describe the case of an incidentally identified intraparenchymal hepatic nodule in the placenta from a near-term delivery of a male infant at 36 weeks gestation. Lesional cells were positive for HepPar1, focally positive for glypican3, and negative for calretinin and alpha-fetoprotein, supportive of hepatocellular origin.

Benzodiazepines, often used to treat anxiety, insomnia, and other conditions, are prescribed more frequently to women than men, and emergency department visits and overdose deaths involving benzodiazepines have increased significantly among women in recent years. This study describes characteristics and trends associated with benzodiazepine exposures among women of reproductive age (15-49 years old) that were reported to United States poison control centers from 2004 through 2018. The National Poison Data System recorded 258,370 first-ranked benzodiazepine exposures among women 15-49 years old during the study period.

Methods: In an 11-month case series, we investigated the use of cerebrospinal fluid metagenomic next-generation sequencing to diagnose viral infections among pediatric hospitalized patients presenting with encephalitis or meningoencephalitis of unknown etiology. Cerebrospinal fluid from patients with known enterovirus meningitis were included as positive controls.

The health-related quality of life and emotional distress among mothers of sons with Duchenne or Becker muscular dystrophies (n = 82) were compared to sex- and age group-matched controls (n = 26). Participants self-reported health-related quality of life for themselves and their son(s), emotional distress, and mood/anxiety-related medication. Mothers reported poorer health-related quality of life across all domains of their health-related quality of life, as well as higher levels of emotional distress.
