Understanding the mechanism of a CO-responsive surfactant is essential for enhancing its industrial applications. Conventional experimental methods face challenges in pinpointing the exact location of proton transfer within the system and in accurately describing the impact of intermolecular and intramolecular interactions on the CO responsiveness of such substances. To address this gap, this study employs molecular dynamics simulations and free energy perturbation methods to investigate the proton transfer process between a CO-responsive cationic surfactant '-dodecyl-,-dimethylacetamidinium (DMAAH) and its counterion bicarbonate ion at the oil-water interface and micelle surface and in the bulk aqueous phase.

Aerobic oxidation of a dimethylplatinum(II) complex featuring 1,1-di(2-pyridyl)ethanol as a supporting ligand leads to the formation of two unexpected Pt complexes (in ∼1:1 ratio), neither of which results from direct oxidation typical for Pt centers supported by popular κ-(,) ligands. While one product features an isomerized Pt center stabilized by the κ-(,,) ligand coordination mode, surprisingly, the other product results from intramolecular activation of the ligand methyl fragment. Mechanistic studies, reactivity of model complexes, and DFT calculations reveal that the critical proton-responsive nature of the ligand allows formation of intermediates that result in a concerted metalation deprotonation (CMD)-like C-H activation at Pt.

Introduction: Endpoint Adjudication Committees (EACs) benefit the quality of randomized control trials (RCTs) where outcomes depend on subjective interpretations. However, assembling a committee to adjudicate large datasets is cumbersome. In a recent RCT, the primary outcome was time to union following operative fixation of scaphoid non-union, with real or placebo adjunctive ultrasound treatment.

Purpose Of Review: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex neurodegenerative disease characterized by inflammation, demyelination, and neurodegeneration. Significant hypoxia exists in brain of people with MS (pwMS), likely contributing to inflammatory, neurodegenerative, and vascular impairments. In this review, we explore the concept of a negative feedback loop between hypoxia and inflammation, discussing its potential role in disease progression based on evidence of hypoxia, and its implications for therapeutic targets.

In recent years, numerous scholars have advocated for the concept of embodiment-defined as the experience of engaging one's body with the world (Allan, 2005; Piran & Teall, 2012)-as a valuable framework for understanding women's experiences of their bodies. However, there is a paucity of research on embodiment specifically among newcomer women (including immigrants, refugees, and non-permanent residents) who belong to racialized groups in Canada. This article presents findings from a feminist research study employing an Arts-Based Engagement Ethnography (ABEE) methodology to investigate the embodiment experiences of six racialized newcomer women in Canada.

Sulphate (SO), predominantly derived from sulphur (S)-bearing glacial sediments distributed widely across the Canadian Interior Plains, contributes to high groundwater salinity and can be detrimental to riparian and dry-land ecosystems, agricultural production, and water use. While previous researchers investigated SO distribution and dynamics in shallow groundwater at local scales (<1500 km), we examine SO occurrence in groundwater at larger scales, and to depths of ∼150 m, considering variations in geology, glacial history, climate, and geochemical and hydrogeological settings in the Canadian province of Alberta. Sulphate concentrations in groundwater vary considerably, with 15 % of 139,130 samples above the 500 mg/L Canadian drinking water aesthetic objective.

Storing CO in deep aquifers and depleted gas reservoirs is an effective way to achieve carbon neutrality. However, the numerical simulation of CO storage in these formations is challenging due to the complexity of gases-brine systems. The number of gas species included in the gases-brine fluid models of existing simulators cannot meet the rapidly evolving CO sequestration scenarios.

Electrospun polystyrene (PS) fibers are produced using a mixed solvent of chloroform and n,n-dimethylformamide (DMF) to investigate the influence of the solvent ratio on the fiber surface morphology and contact angle of the obtained mats. Electrospinning is a simple processing technique for producing fibers with diameters in the range of nanometers to a few micrometers. When using the different solvent ratios for this process, porous PS membranes are created due to nonsolvent and thermally induced phase separation (N-TIPS).
