Supratentorial Intracranial Anomalies in Patients with Myelomeningocele.

Aim: The aim of this study is to assess associated cerebral supratentorial anomalies in patients who underwent myelomeningocele repair in hopes of developing a better morphological apprehension of the forebrain's anomalies in this category of patients.

Material And Methods: This retrospective observational study assessed 426 pediatric patients who underwent myelomeningocele repair between January 2013 and December 2020. Cranial MRIs with T1- and T2-weighted sequences were obtained as part of the postoperative assessment to determine the presence of associated supratentorial anomalies in pediatric patients following myelomeningocele repair.

Dissociative psychosis or dissociative schizophrenia? Comparison of two phenomena.

Background: In recent years, researchers have reported crucial advances in the understanding of "Dissociative psychosis" and "Dissociative schizophrenia". While clinical studies in this area have been sustained for well, it remains to be established for some aspects that a clear and valid relationship exists between dissociation, childhood traumatic experiences, and schizophrenia or psychotic spectrum disorders.

Methods: To test such hypotheses, we divided the patients into two groups; the first group consisted of patients with psychotic disorders not otherwise specified (PNOS), and the second group consisted of schizophrenic patients.

Analysis of Factors Affecting Prolonged Air Leak and Expansion Failure in the Lung after Resection in Patients with Pulmonary Malignancy and Predictive Value of Preoperative Quantitative Chest Computed Tomography.

Background:  The factors affecting the prolonged air leak (PAL) and expansion failure in the lung in patients undergoing resection for lung malignancy were analyzed. In this context, the value of the percentage of low attenuation area (LAA%) measured on preoperative quantitative chest computed tomography (Q-: CT) in predicting the development of postoperative PAL and the expansion time of the remaining lung (ET) in patients undergoing resection for lung malignancy was investigated.

Methods:  The data of 202 cases who underwent lung resection between July 2020 and December 2022 were analyzed.

Background: Using long-acting injectable (LAI) antipsychotics is crucial for treating psychiatric illnesses, particularly those within the schizophrenia spectrum. Through bibliometric analysis, our study aimed to provide an understanding of the changes in research trends related to LAIs over the past 40 years.

Methods: We collected the publications from 1983 to 2023 related to research studies on LAIs included in the Web of Science database.

Introduction: This study aims to investigate the presence of class 1, 2, and 3 integrons in Acinetobacter baumannii isolates, evaluate the relationship between integrons and antibiotic resistance and determine the clonal relationship between isolates by PFGE method.

Methodology: A total of 188 A. baumannii strains between February 2020 and March 2023 were included in the study.

Background: Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (p-PCI) is pivotal in managing ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI); however, it introduces potential risks, such as contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pulse pressure (PP) and CI-AKI incidence in diabetic patients.

Methods: In this retrospective study conducted between 2021 and 2022, 590 diabetic STEMI patients undergoing p-PCI were categorized based on the presence of wide PP.

The effect of a students led caregiving support program on depression, sleep quality and quality of life of the caregivers and patients with stroke.

Purpose: We aimed to provide care support to stroke patients and their caregivers and investigate this support's impact on the psychosocial characteristics of patients', caregivers', and volunteer students' depression, quality of life, and sleep quality.

Material/methods: Volunteer students received caregiving training and provided support to caregivers at patients' homes. Caregivers received care support through the project for four sessions, once a week.

Introduction: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are chronic disorders of the gastrointestinal tract associated with gut microbiota dysbiosis and inflammation. Serum-derived bovine immunoglobulin (SBI) is used to manage IBS and IBD and has shown prebiotic-like effects in ex vivo models. Re-establishing a healthy gut microbiome with novel treatments like SBI could help treat the underlying causes of these diseases leading to higher and sustained patient response.

An Unusual Case of Giant Polymicrobial Shoulder Abscess Developing Two Decades After an Insect Bite: The Role of Chronic Intermittent Swelling as a Predisposing Factor.

Shoulder abscesses, commonly resulting from bacterial infections, can occasionally present with atypical etiologies and delayed onset. We report a rare case of a massive polymicrobial shoulder abscess developing two decades after an insect bite, emphasizing its clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and surgical management. A 65-year-old female presented with severe, progressively worsening right shoulder pain, a 20 cm swelling, and purulent discharge persisting for 15 days.

Analysis of survival and prognostic factors in appendix adenocarcinoma and mucinous carcinoma.

This study aimed to compare mucinous carcinoma and adenocarcinoma of the appendix in terms of survival and investigate the risk factors influencing survival. The data for this study were retrieved from the SEER database (SEER Research Plus 17 registries). Patients diagnosed with appendix cancer between 2004 and 2019 were included.

Differences of microbial growth and biofilm formation among periprosthetic joint infection-causing species: an animal study.

Purpose: The most frequently used surgical procedures for periprosthetic joint infections (PJIs) are debridement, antibiotics, and implant retention (DAIR), as well as single- or two-stage revision arthroplasty. The choice of surgery is made depending on the full maturation of the biofilm layer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biofilm formation and microbial growth using common PJI-causing agents and compare its development on the implant surface.
