Oral delivery of antibodies could increase patient compliance and improve quality of life, however there is currently no viable system for delivering antibodies orally. In this work, a self-assembled, pH-responsive nanoparticle delivery system was developed to load and deliver antibodies via the oral route.

Introduction: The objective of this systematic review is to summarize the use of machine learning (ML) in predicting overall survival (OS) in patients with bladder cancer.

Methods: Search terms for bladder cancer, ML algorithms, and mortality were used to identify studies in PubMed and Web of Science as of February 2022. Notable inclusion/exclusion criteria contained the inclusion of studies that utilized patient-level datasets and exclusion of primary gene expression-related dataset studies.

Background: Community Paramedicine is an evolving community-based model that expands paramedic roles from emergency and transport care to a focus on non-emergent and preventive health services tailored to local community needs. Though community paramedicine is a growing field and acceptance is gradually increasing, there is limited information on community paramedics (CPs) perceptions of their expanded roles. The study's aim is to assess CPs' perceptions about their training, roles, role clarity, role readiness, role satisfaction, professional identity, interprofessional collaboration, and the future of the community paramedicine care model.

Development of low-cost, weight-adjustable clofazimine mini-tablets for treatment of tuberculosis in pediatrics.

Clofazimine (CFZ) is an important component of the World Health Organization's (WHO) recommended all-oral drug regimen for treatment of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). However, the lack of a dividable oral dosage form has limited the use of the drug in pediatric populations, who may require lowering of the dose to reduce the likelihood of adverse drug events. In this study, pediatric-friendly CFZ mini-tablets were prepared from micronized powder via direct compression.

Background And Purpose: Near-peer teaching within healthcare education has numerous benefits, but there is limited literature to assess the impact that these experiences have on skill development and future teaching roles. This study describes the impact of serving as a near-peer teaching assistant on both former and current pharmacy students.

Introduction: The objective of this educational activity was to evaluate the impact of a virtually simulated Choose Your Own Adventure (CYOA) activity on pharmacy student knowledge and confidence of insulin management.

Methods: An online CYOA activity was created using TypeForm, version 2 (TypeForm SL) for a third-year pharmacy school diabetes elective with 16 enrollees over two course offerings. Through use of interactive storytelling, students used critical thinking skills to make decisions in six simulated patient's care including initiation, counseling, conversions, and titration of multiple types of insulin.

The introduction of closed-loop insulin delivery systems that deliver insulin in response to specific levels of glucose in the blood has shifted significantly the research in this field. These systems consist of encapsulated glucose-sensitive components such as glucose oxidase or phenylboronic acid in hydrogels, microgels or nanoparticles.

Factors Limiting the Translatability of Rodent Model-Based Intranasal Vaccine Research to Humans.

The intranasal route of vaccination presents an attractive alternative to parenteral routes and offers numerous advantages, such as the induction of both mucosal and systemic immunity, needle-free delivery, and increased patient compliance. Despite demonstrating promising results in preclinical studies, however, few intranasal vaccine candidates progress beyond early clinical trials. This discrepancy likely stems in part from the limited predictive value of rodent models, which are used frequently in intranasal vaccine research.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy use trends among older women with breast cancer: 2010-2017.

Purpose: This study assessed chemotherapy use trends before (neoadjuvant chemotherapy [NAC]) or after surgery (adjuvant chemotherapy [AdC]) among older women with breast cancer and examined factors related to NAC receipt.

Methods: Women (> 65 years) diagnosed with stage I-III breast cancer during 2010-2017 who received NAC or AdC were identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)-Medicare database. All patients were stratified into six strata based on subtype (hormone receptor-positive/human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative [HR + /HER2-], HER2 + , and triple-negative breast cancer [TNBC]) and stage (I-II and III).

Thermostability of vaccines and biologic drugs are key to increasing global access to a variety of life-saving agents. In this report, we characterize interactions between a novel zwitterionic surfactant and adenovirus serotype 5 which allow the virus to remain stable at room temperature in a thin film matrix. Complexity of the adenovirus capsid and the polydispersity of the surfactant required use of a variety of techniques to achieve this goal.

Identification of Stability Constraints in the Particle Engineering of an Inhaled Monoclonal Antibody Dried Powder.

Monoclonal antibody (mAb) based therapies may provide a valuable new treatment modality for acute and chronic lung diseases, including asthma, respiratory infections, and lung cancer. Currently mAbs are delivered via systemic administration routes, but direct delivery to the lungs via the inhaled route could provide higher concentrations at the site of disease and reduced off-target effects. Though lyophilized mAbs may be reconstituted and delivered to the lungs using nebulizers, dry powder inhalers provide a more patient-friendly delivery method based upon their fast administration time and portability.
