Introduction: Unexpected disasters, such as earthquakes or fires, require preparation to address knowledge gaps that may negatively affect vulnerable patients. Training programs can promote natural disaster readiness to respond and evacuate patients safely, but also require evidence-based information to guide learning objectives.
Problem: There is limited evidence on what skills and bedside equipment are most important to include in disaster training and evacuation programs for critically ill infants.

Most patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are at least age 65 and continue to have short survival, with many patients receiving no specific anti-AML therapy, particularly if they are older than age 75. Although consensus regarding optimal treatment of this growing population is lacking, treatment options are expanding even for the oldest patients. A fundamental question when seeing an older patient with AML is whether to recommend "more intensive" or "less intensive" induction therapy.

The aim of this study was to develop a measurement approach to assess the learning opportunities provided by parents to their young children with autism spectrum disorder during a free play task and to examine the relationship between learning opportunities and child performance on measures of cognition, autism spectrum disorder symptoms, and language. Participants were 91 children with autism spectrum disorder ages 12-24 months and their parents. Ordinary least squares regression was used.

Background: Vitamin D supplements may prevent recurrence, prolong survival, and improve mood for women with breast cancer, although evidence for these effects is preliminary.
Methods: This report describes vitamin D supplement use by 553 breast cancer patient/survivors (193 who used a naturopathic oncology [NO] provider and 360 who did not) participating in a matched cohort study of breast cancer outcomes.
Results: We found that more than half of breast cancer patients reported using vitamin D supplements.

Controlled human malaria infection (CHMI) studies deliberately infect healthy participants with malaria to test interventions faster and more efficiently. Some argue the study design and high payments offered raise ethical concerns about participants' understanding of risks and undue inducement. We conducted baseline and exit interviews with 16 CHMI study participants to explore these concerns.

Parents ( N = 247) and their toddlers (10-24 months) involved with child protective services were randomized to PFR or a control intervention. Results showed that the PFR group demonstrated greater parental sensitivity at postintervention than the control group, which in turn led to higher levels of toddler secure base behavior at 6-month follow-up.

Objective: The National Lung Screening Trial demonstrated the benefits of lung cancer screening, but the potential high incidence of unnecessary invasive testing for ultimately benign radiologic findings causes concern. We aimed to review current biopsy patterns and outcomes in our community-based program, and retrospectively apply malignancy prediction models in a lung cancer screening population, to identify the potential impact these calculators could have on biopsy decisions.
Methods: Retrospective review of lung cancer-screening program participants from 2013 to 2016.

Background: The anatomy of the scapholunate interosseous ligament (SLIL) has been described qualitatively in great detail, with recognition of the dorsal component's importance for carpal stability. The purpose of this study was to define the quantitative anatomy of the dorsal SLIL and to assess the use of high-frequency ultrasound to image the dorsal SLIL.
Methods: We used high-frequency ultrasound imaging to evaluate 40 wrists in 20 volunteers and recorded the radial-ulnar (length) and dorsal-volar (thickness) dimensions of the dorsal SLIL and the dimensions of the scapholunate interval.

This study evaluated the impact of health system-based outreach and reminders on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine series initiation and completion. Parents of 10 to 12 year olds (n = 1805) were randomized to receive either (1) an outreach letter and brochure recommending HPV vaccination followed by automated HPV vaccine reminders or (2) usual care. We interviewed a subset of 50 parents to assess program acceptability.

Current surgical approach (pathway) selection for these complex procedures depends on an individual surgeon's experiences and background training. Because of anatomical variation in both normal tissue and pathology (eg, tumor), a successful surgical pathway used on one patient is not necessarily the best approach on another patient.

Truncus arteriosus is a congenital cardiac lesion in which failure of embryonic truncal septation results in a single semilunar valve and single arterial trunk providing both pulmonary and systemic circulations. Most patients with this lesion are symptomatic in the neonatal period with cyanosis and/or congestive heart failure and undergo complete repair in the first weeks of life. This review will focus on the anatomy, physiology, and perioperative anesthetic management of patients with truncus arteriosus.

Objective: This study sought to describe changes in the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of women who do and do not seek naturopathic oncology (NO) complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) care during and immediately after breast cancer treatment, and to explore the predictive role of NO CAM care, demographic characteristics, and involvement in decision-making on HRQOL in breast cancer survivors.
Methods: Matched cohorts of breast cancer survivors who did and did not choose to supplement their breast cancer treatment with NO care within 2 years of diagnosis participated. NO users were identified through naturopathic doctors' clinics and usual care (UC) controls with similar prognosis were identified through a cancer registry.
