Sarcoidosis is a disease with heterogeneous manifestations and outcomes, varying in part on the basis of organ involvement. Specifically, patients with sarcoidosis at risk for poor outcomes include individuals with treatment-resistant pulmonary sarcoidosis, including fibrotic pulmonary disease and pulmonary hypertension, as well as those with cardiac, neurologic, and multiorgan disease. The limited but available data relating to these patients with high-risk sarcoidosis, defined as those patients with presentations requiring medical intervention to avoid progressive disability or premature death, was evaluated as part of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's workshop to improve understanding of these disease manifestations.

Differential-reinforcement-of-low-rate (DRL) schedules are reinforcement contingencies designed to reduce response rates. A common variation of the DRL arrangement is known as full-session DRL ( f-DRL), in which a reinforcer is presented at the end of an interval if the response rate during that interval is below a predetermined criterion. Prior human operant research involving arbitrary mouse clicks has shown that the f-DRL is likely to reduce target responding to near zero rates.

Deriving Osteogenic Cells from Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells for Bone Tissue Engineering.

Tissue Eng Part B Rev

February 2017

1 State Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, Department of Oral Implantology, West China Hospital of Stomatology, Sichuan University, Chengdu, China .

Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), reprogrammed from adult somatic cells using defined transcription factors, are regarded as a promising cell source for tissue engineering. For the purpose of bone tissue regeneration, efficient in vitro differentiation of iPSCs into downstream cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), osteoblasts, or osteocyte-like cells, before use is necessary to limit undesired tumorogenesis associated with the pluripotency of iPSCs. Until recently numerous techniques on the production of iPSC-derived osteogenic progenitors have been introduced.
