The present study investigated (a) comparisons in rates of rape and sexual assault acknowledgment and (b) a comprehensive multivariate multinomial logistic model predicting rape and sexual assault acknowledgment in a sample of 174 college women who had experienced rape. Significantly more women acknowledged having experienced sexual assault than rape. Greater perceived perpetrator force was associated with increased likelihood of rape and sexual assault acknowledgment.

Aggressive central nervous system (CNS)-directed treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most prevalent cancer among children and adolescents, prevents metastasis of leukemia cells into the brain. Up to 60% of survivors experience cognitive problems, but knowledge about risk factors for and mechanisms of neurologic injury is lacking. Objectives of the present study were to (1) quantify changes in oxidant defense and apoptosis over the course of ALL therapy and (2) elucidate risk factors for long-term cognitive problems.

A Systematic Review of the Association between Cigarette Smoke Exposure and Chronic Rhinosinusitis.

Objectives Cigarette smoking and passive smoke exposure have been associated with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Our goal in this systematic review was to (1) determine if there was a strong correlative effect in large population studies between cigarette smoke exposure and the prevalence of CRS, (2) investigate pathogenic mechanisms of cigarette smoke in the upper airway, and (3) determine if a history of cigarette smoking affects the medical and surgical outcomes of CRS. Variations in Unrealistic Optimism Between Acceptors and Decliners of Early Phase Cancer Trials.

Research has found that patient-subjects in early phase cancer trials exhibit unrealistic optimism regarding the risks and possible benefits of trial participation. Unrealistic optimism is associated with therapeutic misconception and failures to appreciate research-related information. This is the first study to assess whether those who decline to participate in these trials also exhibit unrealistic optimism.
