Asian Americans have a higher prevalence of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared with White Americans. A two-phase evidence-based project developed specifically for Chinese American employees at an urban catering company worksite was led by a registered nurse/certified diabetes educator. The purpose of this project was to (a) identify Chinese employees at risk for T2DM, and (b) develop and implement a customized diabetes prevention program in Chinese.

Background Racial/ethnic minority older adults have worse stroke burden than non-Hispanic white and younger counterparts. Our academic-community partner team tested a culturally tailored 1-month (8-session) intervention to increase walking and stroke knowledge among Latino, Korean, Chinese, and black seniors. Methods and Results We conducted a randomized wait-list controlled trial of 233 adults aged 60 years and older, with a history of hypertension, recruited from senior centers.

Parent-mediated interventions are cost-effective ways to increase access to appropriate treatment services to children with autism spectrum disorder. We aimed to engage parents working as partners within rural autism identification teams to facilitate prompt initiation of autism-specific treatment services and expand the amount of treatment available to young children with autism spectrum disorder. To do this, we sought to employ a two-phase training approach: (Phase 1) train parents to fidelity in an evidence-based parent-mediated intervention (reciprocal imitation training), and (Phase 2) evaluate the extent to which parents could effectively coach other parents of newly diagnosed children to implement reciprocal imitation training with their child.

Background:: The Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) model provides bundled payments for in-hospital and 90-day postdischarge care of patients undergoing total ankle arthroplasty (TAA). Defining patient factors associated with increased costs during TAA could help identify modifiable preoperative patient factors that could be addressed prior to the patient entering the bundle, as well as determine targets for cost reduction in postoperative care.
Methods:: This study is part of an institutional review board-approved single-center observational study of patients undergoing TAA from January 1, 2012, to December 15, 2016.

Background: Physician extenders, such as physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs), have been incorporated into health systems in response to the rising demand for care. There is a paucity of literature regarding patient perspectives toward physician extenders in hand surgery.
Methods: We anonymously surveyed 939 consecutive new patients before their clinic visit.

This study used a cross-sectional design to conduct a subgroup psychometric analysis of the Emotional Availability Scale among matched Hispanic ( n = 20), African American ( n = 20), and European American ( n = 10) English-speaking mother-child dyads in the United States. Differences by race/ethnicity were tested ( p < .05) among (a) Emotional Availability Scale dimensions with ANOVA, and (b) relationships of Emotional Availability Scale dimensions with select Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System variables with Pearson correlation and matched moderated regression.

Extranodal lymphomas involve adrenal glands as a mass lesion in 3% to 5% of cases as identified by imaging studies. Definitive diagnosis of the neoplasm is provided by morphological and immunophenotypical evaluation on limited tissue obtained by fine needle aspiration or core biopsy. We report a diagnostically challenging case that presented as masses involving adrenal gland and lung in the setting of a concurrent primary renal cell carcinoma.

Objective: To report an initial experience using a primary constrained transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) technique for treating cirrhotic patients with refractory ascites or variceal bleeding.
Methods: All patients undergoing primary constrained (n = 9) and conventional (n = 18) TIPS between July 2014 and June 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Preprocedure demographics, Child-Pugh, model for end-stage liver disease and technical variables were recorded.
