Topical calcineurin inhibitors (TCIs) were approved in the early 2000s for the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD), and despite the recent introduction of newer topical and systemic therapies for AD, TCIs such as tacrolimus ointment (0.03% and 0.1%) and pimecrolimus cream (1%), remain recommended treatment options in contemporary management guidelines.

The purpose of this study was to compute the 3-dimensional kinetics required to swing 3 youth baseball bats of varying moments of inertia. The 306 swings by 22 male players (age 13-18 y) were analyzed. Inverse dynamics with respect to the batter's hands were computed given the known kinematics and physical properties of the bats.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic, sometimes relapsing inflammatory skin condition that presents with pruritus and characteristic skin manifestations. Conjunctivitis is a common ocular comorbidity affecting almost half of patients with the risk increasing with atopic dermatitis severity. Recent targeted biologic therapies that successfully treat atopic skin disease, including dupilumab, which blocks interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13, as well as agents that block IL-13 alone, have been associated with an increased rate of conjunctivitis in clinical trials.

Adherence to topical treatment for a variety of chronic skin conditions, such as psoriasis, acne, and atopic dermatitis, is known to be very poor. A number of factors contribute to this phenomenon, including lack of treatment efficacy and patient concerns regarding side effects, among others. At the forefront of barriers facing optimal patient adherence to topical treatment is choosing the ideal topical vehicle formulation.

Method: Data are from the International Mobility in Aging Study ( n = 1,676). The Bem Sex Role Inventory was used to classify participants into four gender roles as "masculine," "feminine," "androgynous," and "undifferentiated.
A typical gait analysis data collection consists of a series of discrete trials, where a participant initiates gait, walks through a motion capture volume, and then terminates gait. This is not a normal 'everyday' gait pattern, yet measurements are considered representative of normal walking. However, walking speed, a global descriptor of gait quality that can affect joint kinematics and kinetics, may be different during discrete trials, compared to continuous walking.

Background: Only a paucity of studies have addressed clinician perspectives on patient decisional conflict, in making complex decisions between dialysis and conservative management (renal supportive and palliative care).
Aim: To explore clinician views on decisional conflict in patients with end-stage kidney disease.
Design: Interpretive, qualitative study.

Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common skin disorders in the developed world, affecting up to 20% of children and 1% to 3% of adults. This review concisely explains the pathophysiology and epidemiology of atopic dermatitis, as well as potential challenges facing its successful treatment. Furthermore, mainstay topical treatment modalities are evaluated, such as emollients, topical corticosteroids, and topical calcineurin inhibitors.

Porphyromonas gingivalis produces different LPS isoforms with significant structural variations of their lipid A and O-antigen moieties that can affect its pro-inflammatory and bone-resorbing potential. We show here, for the first time, that P. gingivalis LPS isolated from W83 strain is highly sialylated and possesses significantly reduced inflammatory potential compared with less sialylated ATCC 33277 strain LPS.

Background: Clinical trial data have shown apremilast, an oral phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor, to be efficacious and safe for the treatment of psoriasis. However, little real-world experience using apremilast in the community setting has been documented.
Objectives: Many patients with psoriasis are often unresponsive to various treatment modalities, including topical, systemic, and biologic medications.

Potential associations between systemic inflammation and social support received by a sample of 120 older adults were examined here. Inflammatory markers, cognitive function, social support and psychosocial wellbeing were evaluated. A structural equation modelling approach was used to analyse the data.

Youth who experience peer victimization are at risk of developing mental health problems. However, little is known about the emotional causal mechanisms linking peer victimization with these negative outcomes. This study investigated whether shame mediated this relationship.

Using interpretative phenomenological analysis, the lived experiences of six fathers were explored. Two master themes emerged: 'relinquishing and reclaiming control' and 'living in the shadow of illness'.

Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium bovis is a re-emerging disease of livestock that is of major economic importance worldwide, as well as being a zoonotic risk. There is significant heritability for host resistance to bovine TB (bTB) in dairy cattle. To identify resistance loci for bTB, we undertook a genome-wide association study in female Holstein-Friesian cattle with 592 cases and 559 age-matched controls from case herds.
