Bacterial Extracellular DNA Production Is Associated with Outcome of Prosthetic Joint Infections.

In a retrospective study the association of the production of extracellular DNA (eDNA) in biofilms of clinical staphylococcal isolates from 60 patients with prosthetic joint infection (PJI) and the clinical outcome were investigated. Data from a previous study on eDNA production determined in 24-hour biofilms of staphylococcal isolates (S n=30, n=30) was correlated with the patients' clinical outcome after 3 and 12 months. Statistical analysis was performed using either the Spearman's rank correlations test or the t-test.

Adult ADHD Is Associated With Gambling Severity and Psychiatric Comorbidity Among Treatment-Seeking Problem Gamblers.

The aim of this study is as follows: (a) exploring retrospective childhood and adult ADHD symptomatology in treatment-seeking gamblers, (b) providing detailed characteristics of the association between pathological gambling (PG) and ADHD, and (c) identifying risk factors for a history of ADHD. Eighty problem gamblers (20% female) were examined using a standardized interview (PG: [4th ed.; ] criteria, Gambling Attitudes and Beliefs Survey; ADHD: Wender Utah Rating Scale-, Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale; comorbidities: Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview).

The nonmedical use of synthetic cathinones is increasing on a global scale. 4-Methyl-N-methylcathinone (mephedrone) is a popular synthetic cathinone that is now illegal in the United States and other countries. Since the legislative ban on mephedrone, a number of 'second-generation' analogs have appeared in the street drug marketplace, including 4-methyl-N-ethylcathinone (4-MEC) and 4'-methyl-α-pyrrolidinopropiophenone (4-MePPP).
