Mitophagy, a selective form of autophagy, plays a crucial role in maintaining optimal mitochondrial populations, normal function, and intracellular homeostasis by monitoring and removing damaged or excess mitochondria. Furthermore, mitophagy promotes mitochondrial degradation via the lysosomal pathway, and not only eliminates damaged mitochondria but also regulates programmed cell death-associated genes, thus preventing cell death. The interaction between mitophagy and various forms of cell death has recently gained increasing attention in relation to the pathogenesis of clinical diseases, such as cancers and osteoarthritis, neurodegenerative, cardiovascular, and renal diseases.

Purpose: The effects of combing evolocumab and statin on the clinical outcome and physiological function of coronary arteries in STEMI patients with non-infarct-related artery (NIRA) disease are still unclear.
Methods: A total of 355 STEMI patients with NIRA were enrolled in this study, who underwent combined quantitative flow ratio (QFR) at baseline and after 12 months of treatment with statin monotherapy or statin plus evolocumab.
Results: Diameter stenosis and lesion length were significantly lower in the group undergoing statin plus evolocumab.

Background And Objectives: To investigate the iatrogenic risk factors for hypophosphatemia in intensive care unit (ICU) patients.
Methods And Study Design: A total of 120 patients were enrolled and further divided into 4 groups, namely normal, mild, moderate or severe, according to the degree of hypophosphatemia. A number of related factors were analyzed and compared among the 4 groups, including the treatment method and outcomes.

Previous studies have demonstrated that activated endothelial epithelial sodium channel (EnNaC) impairs vasodilatation, which contributes to salt-sensitive hypertension. Here, we investigate whether mesenteric artery (MA) EnNaC is involved in cold exposure-induced hypertension (CIH) and identify the underlying mechanisms in SD rats. One group of rats was housed at room temperature and served as control.

Background: Acute systolic heart failure (ASHF) is one of the most serious complications of the acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and increases the likelihood of adverse clinical outcomes. It remains unclear whether the use of non-invasive ventilation (NIV) could improve symptoms and reduce mortality in patients with ASHF derived from ACS.
Methods: Data on biological, clinical, and demographic factors, as well as therapy data, were collected from patients with ASHF in the cardiac department.

Background: Acne is a chronic facial disease caused by Propionibacterium acnes, which proliferates within sebum-blocked skin follicles and increases inflammatory cytokine production. Several therapeutic drugs and products have been proposed to treat acne, yet no single treatment that ensures long-term treatment efficacy for all patients is available. Here, we explored the use of facial autologous fat transplant of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) to dramatically reduce acne lesions.

Aims: Acute decompensated right heart failure (RHF) in chronic precapillary pulmonary hypertension is often typified by a swiftly progressive syndrome involving systemic congestion. This results from the impairment of the right ventricular filling and/or a reduction in the flow output of the right ventricle, which has been linked to a dismal prognosis of short duration. Despite this, there are limited therapeutic data regarding these acute incidents.

Purpose: Portal hypertension due to cirrhosis is common among patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to compare the outcomes of partial hepatectomy in patients with HCC and clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) with or without concurrent splenectomy and esophagogastric devascularization (CSED).
Patients And Methods: From a multicenter database, patients with HCC and CSPH who underwent curative-intent hepatectomy were identified.

It has been reported that sex has well-established relationships with the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) and the major adverse cardiovascular events. Compared with men, the difference of coronary artery and myocardial characteristics in women has effects on anatomical and functional evaluations. Quantitative flow ratio (QFR) has been shown to be effective in assessing the hemodynamic relevance of lesions in stable coronary disease.

Background: To recognize and validate the predictor of risk factors for ICU patients with QTc intervals ≥500 ms.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 160 ICU patients with their medical electronic records including all demographic data, diagnosis measurements, ECGs and medication from March 1, 2018 to December 1, 2018. All information of patients' baseline, comorbidities, electrolytes and Long QT syndrome (LQTS)-inducing medications of patients with QT interval corrected (QTc) ≥ 500 ms (n = 80) and <500 ms (n = 80) were collected and analyzed using univariate and multivariate analyses to find predictors.

Previous studies have shown that high salt induces artery stiffness by causing endothelial dysfunction via increased sodium influx. We used our unique split-open artery technique combined with protein biochemistry and measurement of vascular tone to test a hypothesis that bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) mediates high salt-induced loss of vascular relaxation by stimulating the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) in endothelial cells. The data show that high salt intake increased BMP4 both in endothelial cells and in the serum and that exogenous BMP4 stimulated ENaC in endothelial cells.

Chronic oxidative stress resulting from hyperlipidemia is thought to be a key pathogenic driver of pancreatic β-cell dysfunction in leading to the onset of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been increasingly recognized to regulate dysfunction within pancreatic β-cells in the context of T2DM. In the present study, we sought to comprehensively analyze the roles of lncRNAs in dysfunctional β-cells and mouse islets.
