Objective: This study compared 2 representative cases with ruptured aneurysms to explore the role of hemodynamic and morphological parameters in evaluating the rupture risk of intracranial aneurysms (IAs).
Methods: CTA and 3-dimensional rotational angiography (3DRA) of 3 IAs in 2 patients were retrospectively analyzed in this study. Hemodynamics and morphological parameters were compared between a ruptured IA and an unruptured IA in case1, and between before and after aneurysm rupture in case 2.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a full-joint, multifactorial, degenerative and inflammatory disease that seriously affects the quality of life of patients due to its disabling and pain-causing properties. ER stress has been reported to be closely related to the progression of OA. The inositol-requiring enzyme 1α/X-box-binding protein-1 spliced (IRE1α/XBP1s) pathway, which is highly expressed in the chondrocytes of OA patients, promotes the degradation and refolding of abnormal proteins during ER stress and maintains the stability of the ER environment of chondrocytes, but its function and the underlying mechanisms of how it contributes to the progression of OA remain unclear.

Cartilage development is controlled by the highly synergistic proliferation and differentiation of growth plate chondrocytes, in which the Indian hedgehog (IHH) and parathyroid hormone-related protein-parathyroid hormone-1 receptor (PTHrP-PTH1R) feedback loop is crucial. The inositol-requiring enzyme 1α/X-box-binding protein-1 spliced (IRE1α/XBP1s) branch of the unfolded protein response (UPR) is essential for normal cartilage development. However, the precise role of ER stress effector IRE1α, encoded by endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 1 (), in skeletal development remains unknown.

Progranulin (PGRN) is a multifunctional growth factor involved in many physiological processes and disease states. The apparent protective role of PGRN and the importance of chondrocyte autophagic function in the progression of osteoarthritis (OA) led us to investigate the role of PGRN in the regulation of chondrocyte autophagy. PGRN knockout chondrocytes exhibited a deficient autophagic response with limited induction following rapamycin, serum starvation, and IL-1β-induced autophagy.

CBX3, also known as HP1γ, is a major isoform of heterochromatin protein 1, whose deregulation has been reported to promote the development of human cancers. However, the molecular mechanism of CBX3 in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) are unclear. Our study reported the identification of CBX3 as a potential therapeutic target for GBM.

Iron metabolism disturbances play an important role in early brain injury (EBI) after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), and hepcidin largely influences iron metabolism. Importantly, iron metabolism may be associated with ferroptosis, recently a nonapoptotic iron-dependent form of cell death that may have a great impact on brain injury after SAH. We investigated hepcidin on iron metabolism and ferroptosis involving divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1), and ferroportin-1 (FPN1) in a rat model of SAH.

Objective: To compare the effectiveness of modified transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (modified-TLIF) and posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) for mild to moderate lumbar spondylolisthesis in middle-aged and elderly patients.
Methods: The clinical data of 106 patients with mild to moderate lumbar spondylolisthesis (Meyerding classification≤Ⅱ degree) who met the selection criteria between January 2015 and January 2017 were retrospectively analysed. All patients were divided into modified-TLIF group (54 cases) and PLIF group (52 cases) according to the different surgical methods.

Background And Aims: Ubiquitin-specific protease 18 (USP18) is involved in immunoregulation and response to interferon- (IFN-) based treatment in patients chronically infected with hepatitis C virus (HCV). We investigated whether and how its upregulation alters HCV infection.
Methods: Overexpression of wild-type (USP18 WT) or catalytically inactive mutant (USP18 C64S) USP18 was examined for effects on HCV replication in the absence and presence of IFN or IFN using both the HCV-infective model and replicon cells.

Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) is a common complication after cardiac surgery, resulting in an increased risk of morbidity and longer hospital stay. Pharmacologic prophylaxis has been recommended to improve the outcome in patients at high risk of developing POAF after cardiac surgery. Several studies have applied the CHADS-VASc (Congestive heart failure, Hypertension Age [≥65 = 1 point, ≥75 = 2 points], Diabetes, and Stroke/transient ischemic attack (2 points)-vascular disease [peripheral arterial disease, previous myocardial infarction, aortic atheroma]) score in the risk stratification of POAF but yielded contradicting results.

Background: Cell metabolic pathways are highly conserved among species and change rapidly in response to drug stimulation. Therefore, we explore the effects of angiotensin-(1-7) in a primary cell model of cardiac fibrosis established in angiotensin II-stimulated cardiac fibroblasts via metabolomics analysis and further clarify the potential protective mechanism of angiotensin-(1-7).
Methods And Results: After exposing cardiac fibroblasts to angiotensin II and/or angiotensin-(1-7), 172 metabolites in these cells were quantified and identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Objective: To assess the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of adjunctive levetiracetam (LEV) in Chinese and Japanese adults with generalized tonic-clonic (GTC) seizures (N01159; NCT01228747).
Methods: This double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, multicenter phase III trial comprised: 4-week retrospective and 4-week prospective baseline, 12-week dose-adjustment, and 16-week evaluation periods. Chinese and Japanese patients ≥16 years old with idiopathic generalized, symptomatic generalized, or undetermined epilepsy with GTC seizures received a single-blind placebo during the prospective baseline, and then were randomized 1:1 to placebo or LEV 1,000 mg/day administered twice daily.

Recent studies have shown that increased syndecan-1 (SDC1) expression in human glioma is associated with higher tumor grades and poor prognoses, but its oncogenic functions and the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unknown. Here, we examined SDC1 expression in datasets from The Cancer Genome Atlas and the National Center for Biotechnology Information Gene Expression Omnibus. Elevated SDC1 expression in glioma was closely associated with increases in tumor progression and shorter survival.

BACKGROUND The role that nc886, a non-coding microRNA, plays in human endometrial cancer is unknown. The present study aimed to describe the functional role of nc886 in human endometrial cancer-1A (HEC-1A) cell line, which may provide another target for human endometrial cancer treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS The expression levels of nv886 in normal human endometrial tissue and the early phase and late phase of human endometrial cancer tissues were determined and compared by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH).

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is known to induce phenotypic switching of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) from contractile to a pathological synthetic state, which played an essential role in proliferation of VSMCs. Sonic hedgehog (Shh) contributes to the proliferation of VSMCs when induced by PDGF. Here, we investigated the probable role of Shh in PDGF-induced VSMC dedifferentiation and its underlying mechanisms.
