Background: The World Trade Center (WTC) attacks on September 11, 2001 (9/11) resulted in over 2700 fatalities and thousands injured. Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed disaster preparedness among individuals previously exposed to the World Trade Center disaster, focusing on how demographic and medical factors influenced their readiness for new disasters.
  • Over one-third (37.5%) of participants reported being prepared for Hurricane Sandy, with the most common missing preparedness item being an evacuation plan (69.8%).
  • Higher social support levels and extensive 9/11 exposure correlated positively with preparedness, suggesting future messaging should target those with lower social support and emphasize evacuation information.
