Objective: Numerous studies have investigated the impact of inflammatory factors in cancer, yet few attempts have been made to investigate these markers in skull base chordoma (SBC). Inflammatory values including neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR), systemic immune inflammation index (SII), and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) can serve as prognostic markers in various cancers. This study aimed to determine whether these inflammatory factors influence overall survival (OS) or progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with primary SBC.

However, in developing countries, the awareness about usefulness of bio-banking concept is lacking and centres which do offer it, depend mainly on - 20 or - 80 °C for sample storage due to lack of sophisticated infrastructure like vapour phase nitrogen storage preservation. Hence in these resource constraint settings, timely audit of quality of nucleic acids extractable from samples stored is of utmost importance.

This retrospective study and systematic review with meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the QOL in patients with HFS following intervention with microvascular decompression (MVD) and botulinum toxin (BT). Objectives: Participating in a decision to limit life support for a loved one in the ICU is associated with adverse mental health consequences for surrogate decision makers. We sought to describe acutely bereaved surrogates' experiences surrounding this decision.

Design: Qualitative analysis of interviews with surrogates approximately 4 weeks after a patient's death in one of six ICUs at four hospitals in Pittsburgh, PA.

The diagnosis of acute bacterial sinusitis can be challenging because symptoms of acute sinusitis and an upper respiratory tract infection (URI) overlap. A rapid test, if accurate in differentiating sinusitis from URI, could be helpful in the diagnostic process. We examined the utility of nasopharyngeal cultures in identifying the subgroup of children with a clinical diagnosis of acute sinusitis who are least likely to benefit from antimicrobial therapy (those with completely normal sinus radiographs).
