The understanding of responses to traumatic events has been greatly influenced by the introduction of the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In this paper we review the initial versions of the diagnostic criteria for this condition and the associated epidemiological findings, including sociocultural differences. We consider evidence for post-traumatic reactions occurring in multiple contexts not previously defined as traumatic, and the implications that these observations have for the diagnosis.

APC mutations increase the risk of malignancy and are often characterized by syndromes that encompass a spectrum of neoplastic manifestations, such as familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP). We present a rare case of palatal peripheral nerve sheath tumor in the context of APC gene mutation.

Serum bactericidal activity against meningococcus in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus.

Background: Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are susceptible to infectious diseases owing to various immunosuppressive treatments and disease characteristics. Meningococcal infections progress rapidly with a high incidence of severe complications and mortality; therefore, meningococcal vaccination is needed. However, there is limited evidence regarding the immunity and immunogenicity of patients with SLE.

Associations of Atopic Dermatitis in Late Adolescence with Occupation, Mental Health, Income from Work and Marital Status: A National Longitudinal Study.

The main aim of this study was to evaluate longitudinal associations between atopic dermatitis (AD) in late adolescence and occupational socioeconomic group, labour market participation, income from work, and marital status later in adult life. Using Swedish population-based registry data a total of 205,394 men were included, born between 1952 and 1956 in Sweden and who underwent military conscription examination including assessment of atopic dermatitis (AD) and AD severity. The associations between AD and AD severity in late adolescence and labour market participation, income from work, marital status, and medication for anxiety and depression later in adult life were examined.

Methods: This was a prospective, cross-sectional study carried out between February 2019 and October 2020 at the general gynecology clinic at University College London Hospital, London, UK. The Warburg effect, which describes the fermentation of glucose to lactate even in the presence of oxygen, is ubiquitous in proliferative mammalian cells, including cancer cells, but poses challenges for biopharmaceutical production as lactate accumulation inhibits cell growth and protein production. Previous efforts to eliminate lactate production in cells for bioprocessing have failed as lactate dehydrogenase is essential for cell growth. Here, we effectively eliminate lactate production in Chinese hamster ovary and in the human embryonic kidney cell line HEK293 by simultaneous knockout of lactate dehydrogenases and pyruvate dehydrogenase kinases, thereby removing a negative feedback loop that typically inhibits pyruvate conversion to acetyl-CoA.

Herein, we describe a protocol for Brønsted acid-catalyzed regioselective coupling of azoles such as pyrazoles, 1,2,3-triazole, 1,3,4-triazole, benzotriazole, indazole and tetrazole, to cyclobutenes. These azoles could be directly coupled with various arylcyclobutenes with high site-selectivity, offering a distinct entry to more functionalized cyclobutanes. The usage of inexpensive TsOH•H2O catalyst, broad substrate scope, and open-air conditions make this protocol practically viable.
