Introduction: Heart failure (HF) poses a substantial burden on healthcare systems and society, necessitating effective diagnostic tools for enhanced patient management. The soluble suppression of tumorigenesis 2 protein (Soluble Suppression of Tumorigenesis 2 (sST2)) has emerged as a promising biomarker linked to cardiac remodeling and fibrosis. This study investigates Soluble Suppression of Tumorigenesis 2 (sST2)'s potential as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for chronic heart failure (CHF) and explores its clinical utility in predicting outcomes.

Background: Fluoroquinolones are used for the complex treatment of mono-, poly-, and multi-resistant Tuberculosis (TB) and are the most efficient among resistant TB treatment drugs. Disease caused by fluoroquinolone-resistant TB strains, especially pre-extensive TB (pre-XDR) and extensive (XDR) forms are extremely hard to manage, and treatment efficacy is quite low. With the revitalization and extension of resistant TB drugs, one of the main research domains is to study resistance inhibitors aimed at restoring the efficacy of main and priority anti-TB medications.

Background: Control of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-MTB) requires novel technologies for restoring the anti-TB efficacy of priority drugs. We sought to evaluate the ability of nanotechnology application in the recovery of the anti-tuberculosis efficacy of rifampicin.

Methods: Nanocomposite- standard dose of rifampicin and 20 nm silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) suspension solution of 6 different concentrations: 0.

Dental caries development in students depends on many factors. Our research aims at studying the dependence of the incidence of caries among foreigners residing in Georgia on caries awareness and behaviors Oral health status of the study population was assessed using the caries intensity DMFT index offered by the World Health Organization (WHO). Patients were divided into two groups, according to the DMFT Index, with the first group comprising patients with low and very low DMFT index, and the second group - with moderate and high (<2,6) (>2,7) DMFT index.

Article Synopsis
  • The research focused on the frequency of VKROC1 and CYP2C9 gene variants in both healthy individuals and thrombosis patients within the Abkhazian population, examining their impact on warfarin treatment.
  • Results showed that healthy donors had a higher frequency of the heterozygous VKROC1 genotype compared to thrombosis patients, highlighting potential genetic predispositions to thrombotic conditions.
  • Significant differences were observed in the CYP2C9 gene variants, with the wild-type genotype more prevalent in healthy individuals than in thrombotic patients, indicating a possible link between these gene variants and susceptibility to thrombosis.

The growth inhibiting thermostable protein complex (TPC) from the bone marrow cells of adult mice was isolated and partially characterized. A comparative analysis of TPC components was performed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. It has been established that the complex isolated from the bone marrow of adult mice, like complexes obtained from other organs, contains two relatively high-molecular-weight and low-molecular-weight sub fractions of proteins.

For several decades, highly refined cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) are used to prevent and manage various types of cardiac pathology, which have saved the lives of many patients. Cardiac implantable electronic devices help maintain and improve the quality of life by regulating the heart rate, terminating life-threatening arrhythmias, and improving systolic function, including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy devices. Regardless of the benefits received after its implantation, in some cases, serious complication has appeared, such as CIED infections, associated with severe morbidity, mortality, financial expenses and changes in the quality of life.

Psoriasis is a T cell mediated chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting about 2% of the population worldwide. Recently has established the central role of IL-23/Th17 immune axis in the pathogenesis of psoriasis and different subclasses of T cells including Th1 and Th17 cells are involved in initiation and amplification of the skin inflammation process, in addition, in cases of recurrent psoriasis, Th22 cells play the role of memory cells with the help of Th9 cells, which are also important in this process. The main goal was to evaluate the ratio of T cell profile and IL23/Th17 axis by evaluating IL17A, IL22, IL9 in peripheral blood of persons with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

In this review, we have discussed the relationships between oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and dental implants. In the last decade, dental implants have been widely used for the treatment of complete or partial edentulism. Despite the fact that they have seen incredible success and the use of dental implants increases, concerns over safety and efficiency is rising as well.

The results of the previous research, aimed to study the per-ception of and attitude to the end-of-life in the incurable cancer patients as well as the elderly aged 85 and older, revealed that independently from the cause of the life limitation, perceptions of and attitudes to the end-of-life are mainly similar. Moreover, it must be highlighted that the complaints on oral cavity were stated only by the single patients from the sample. We aimed to verify if the less attention from the sides of pa-tients towards the oral cavity symptoms/complaints were caused by the "poor" format of semi-structured interviews that were not focused on the oral status.

Surgical debulking is a relatively new and promising treatment for epithelial ovarian cancer. The aim of the study was to analyze current literature data to identify the best algorithms in order to promote the wider adoption of cytoreductive treatment based on the principles of evidence-based medicine. Such an analysis is important, since different studies contain contradictory results and their authors often point out the need for additional data to develop reliable recommendations.

Investigated 62 sample of thyroid gland obtained after surgical intervention, including: HT (n=27), RT (n=9), Graves' disease (n=17) and papillary thyroid carcinoma (n = 10). The slides were studied using classical histological and immunohistochemical methods: H&E, TTF1, TSH, S100-protein, CD56 and p63. Dispite of the histological and immunohistochemical heterogeneity of Thyroiditis HT and RT, the progressive involution of the glandular tissue with the replacement by the sever fibrosis, in some cases by the scar tissue is observed as damage sign.

[EVALUATION OF GENOMIC PARAMETERS IN DUCTAL BREAST CANCER PATIENTS AND THE ABILITY OF IT'S CORRECTION].

Georgian Med News

April 2017

The level of DNA single strand breaks, chromosomal abnormalities and sister chromatid exchanges and the possibility of its normalization with oligopeptide bioregulator Livagen and cobalt ions in the lymphocyte culture from patients with breast cancer have been studied. The results show that the genome of ductal breast cancer patients is characterized by the high density of DNA single strand breaks, high frequency of chromosomal abnormalities and increased levels of chromatin condensation. The usage of Livagen and cobalt in the form of modifying agents has a protective effect by all studied parameters.
