BRIDGING GAP BETWEEN PRE AND POSTOPERATIVE PROSTATE BIOPSIES: PI RADS CORRELATION WITH FINAL HISTOPATHOLOGICAL DATA.

Georgian Med News

June 2023

1Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Faculty of Medicine, Georgia; 2Acad. F. Todua Medical Center, Magnetic Resonance Imaging Department, Tbilisi, Georgia.

We aim to define strength of correlation between Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI RADS) scores of prostate cancer and final histopathological data-postoperative Gleason scores (Gs); apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and Gs; to define mean ADC values for each Gleason grade as well. To determine compliance of MRI data in preoperative prostate cancer grading with gold standard-morphological data. 203 consecutive patients suspected for prostate cancer (Pc) on multiparametric MRI, who underwent subsequent preoperative TRUS or MRI/Ultrasound fusion guided biopsies were included to this study prospectively.

Until recent period, hyperinsulinemia and hyperandrogenism were thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), however, in recent years several studies reported that hyperhomocysteinemia, which may be associated with insulin resistance, plays important role in the pathogenesis of PCOS. Therefore, hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) can be considered as one of the newly identified characteristics of PCOS. The aim of the study was to evaluate homocysteine (Hcy) levels in patients with PCOS with and without insulin resistance.

The article presents data on the genome status of pregnant women in different trimesters of pregnancy, during the normal course of pregnancy. The variability of ribosomal cystone activation as well as the variability of genome stability (frequencies of chromosomal aberrations and fragile sites) in different trimesters of pregnancy have been studied to detect genome-specific functional variability for each trimester. It was found that the level of genome stability determined by the frequency of chromosomal structural disorders and fragile sites in all three trimesters of pregnancy did not differ significantly from similar rates for non-pregnant healthy women.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common adult leukaemia in the US and in Europe, including Georgia. CLL presents with clonal expansion and accumulation of CD5+CD19+CD23+ cells in peripheral lymphoid organs and tissues and in bone marrow. The disease remains incurable, albeit there are new molecular and immunotherapy methods currently available, which, in conjunction with chemotherapy, lead to the "precision therapy" approach.

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) presents with clonal expansion and accumulation of CD5+CD19+CD23+ cells in peripheral lymphoid organs and tissues and in bone marrow. CLL is supposedly driven by exogenous and/or endogenous (auto)antigen(s) and there is increasing evidence that CLL cells receive microenvironmental signals which support their growth, survival and expansion in vivo. We have previously shown that powerful signals are received by CLL cells through CD180 orphan toll-like receptor.
