While enquiry into the intersections of race, class, and gender serves as the historical and theoretical basis for intersectional stigma, there is little consensus on how best to characterize and analyze intersectional stigma, or on how to design interventions to address this complex phenomenon. Keratinocyte carcinomas (KCs) are commonly located on the scalp and often treated with excision with peripheral and deep en face margin assessment (PDEMA), with Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) being the most frequently used method. Resection of these malignancies results in wounds with a wide variety of sizes, ranging from small, sub-centimeter defects, to extensive, nearly complete scalp defects. MMS is often the preferred treatment for tumor resection and margin clearance, as it allows for maximal healthy tissue preservation and has the lowest recurrence rates.

SARS-CoV-2 3CL protease (Main protease) and human cathepsin L are proteases that play unique roles in the infection of human cells by SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19. Both proteases recognize leucine and other hydrophobic amino acids at the P position of a peptidomimetic inhibitor. At the P position, cathepsin L accepts many amino acid side chains, with a partial preference for phenylalanine, while 3CL-PR protease has a stringent specificity for glutamine or glutamine analogues.

The multifunctional catalytic hemoglobin from the terebellid polychaete , also named dehaloperoxidase (DHP), utilizes the typical oxygen transport function in addition to four observed activities involved in substrate oxidation. The multifunctional ability of DHP is presently a rare observation, and there exists a limitation for how novel dehaloperoxidases can be identified from macrobenthic infauna. In order to discover more infaunal DHP-bearing candidates, we have devised a facilitated method for an accurate taxonomic identification that places visual and molecular taxonomic approaches in parallel.

Free Carrier Auger-Meitner Recombination in Monolayer Transition Metal Dichalcogenides.

Microscopic many-body models based on inputs from first-principles density functional theory are used to calculate the carrier losses due to free carrier Auger-Meitner recombination (AMR) processes in Mo- and W-based monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides as a function of the carrier density, temperature, and dielectric environment. Despite the exceptional strength of Coulomb interaction in the two-dimensional materials, the AMR losses are found to be similar in magnitude to those in conventional III-V-based quantum wells for the same wavelengths. Unlike the case in III-V materials, the losses show nontrivial density dependencies due to the fact that bandgap renormalizations on the order of hundreds of millielectronvolts can bring higher bands into or out of resonance with the optimal energy level for the AMR transition, approximately one bandgap from the lowest band.

Invasive candidiasis (IC) is a term that refers to a group of infectious syndromes caused by a variety of Candida species, 6 of which cause the vast majority of cases globally. Candidemia is probably the most commonly recognized syndrome associated with IC; however, Candida species can cause invasive infection of any organ, especially visceral organs, vasculature, bones and joints, eyes, and central nervous system. The optimal use of these newer diagnostics coupled with a thoughtful clinical assessment of at-risk patients and the judicious use of effective antifungal therapy is a key to achieving good antifungal stewardship and improved patient outcomes.
